To help Miss Anderson get to know everyone in the class, we created self-portraits, which we split in half. Half of our face was a true likeness and the other half contained things that we like. This helped Miss Anderson learn more about us.

As part of our work in Literacy Evolve, we have been reading ‘Christophe’s Story.’ A book about a boy who had to flee war in Rwanda and came to England. We discussed the United Nations Conventions of the Rights of the Child and linked these to parts of the story. We chose an article to look at and we identified where Christophe’s rights were or were not being met in the story. This was very though-provoking in understanding that not all children across the glob have access to their rights.

During the open afternoon we planted a lot of plants big and small, all gifted by Tesco. We have been discussing what we need to do to take care of our plants and how that is similar to taking care of ourselves and others!

Whilst discussing how to become the best rights respecting ambassadors we can be, we decided that something important we need to work on is our resilience. We were given cups, rubber bands and string in our groups and we had to work together in our teams to stack the cups without touching them. This was a difficult task which we needed to use our resilience for and also help our teammates be resilient. We enjoyed smashing them down at the end and watching in slo-mo!

In P5/6, we created Newsround style dramas in groups based on our UNCRC rights! We had a lot of fun and enjoyed watching each others’ performances and guessing the right that they chose. We all especially enjoyed Connor, Seth and Eli’s performance, we think they will be film stars one day.

As part of skills academy for term 1 our topic in primary 6/7 was the solar system. The class were set a challenge in groups to create a real life model of the solar system using items which were found in the classroom. The groups were challenged to think about the size of planet, the colour of planet and the order in which they appear in the solar system.

As a class we worked together to talk about our Rights and Responsibilities. We looked at the UNRC articles and discussed what we felt was most important in our classroom.
Have a look at our Class Charter to see what we will be focusing on…

Primary 3 have been learning about 3D shapes and their properties. Recently, they were given a challenge to create 3D shapes using straws and playdough. They had to think about the number of edges, faces and vertices of each shape. Look at the results!
