Primary 7 have been learning about The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child. We discussed the rights that we thought were important to us in school and then we created our own class charter based on these rights.

We also discussed which rights we thought were most important to us. On the Open Afternoon we ranked our rights with our parents to see if we could agree on an order of priority.

We designed our own classrooms based on meeting our rights such as the right to play and rest and the right to a good quality education.

We love Art and Design in Primary 6. Here are some examples of our Art.

We will continue to develop our Art skills.
In Primary 6/7 we have been looking at what creates a rights respecting school. For this activity we were in the playground drawing around our partners body and writing positive affirmations about our partners inside the outline.

On Friday 22nd September Primary 7 visited Dumfries High School for the day. We were learning all about the risks associated with social media and the right to the protection of our privacy (article 16).
We discussed the dangers of social media and what we can do to keep ourselves safe.
We split into small groups and each group had to create and perform a short role-play scenario associated with different social media platforms.
We learnt a rap all about social media also.
During lunch time the school captains took us to the gym hall for a game of dodgeball.
After lunch we went back to the drama studio to rehearse our play and at 2pm our parents came to watch our performance. We were all a little nervous but we did really well and really enjoyed our day!
Throughout the day we had a chance to develop our communication, team work, performance and resilience skills.

As part of our Rights Respecting Schools and Outdoor Learning we went out into the playground with our chalk. We had to draw around our partner’s outline and make sure we put our name to it. Then we had to go around everybody’s and identify the positive qualities they have. We wrote these inside the body outline. It was nice to look at all the nice things people said about us.

Primary 5 have been really busy setting up our learning environment and creating our class charter. Pupils chose a ‘Minions’ theme and we had a lot of discussion about what rights were most important to us and how pupils and staff will work together to make sure all of P5 are accessing these rights.

We have been busy talking about children’s rights, and agreeing on our responsibilities for our class charter. P2/3 chose a busy bee theme!

We all signed our charter as a promise to remember our responsibilities.

The rights P2/3 agreed were most important for their class charter were –
