Prospectus 2025/26
Across Dumfries and Galloway, our schools are working together to deliver a virtual learning campus to provide more equitable access to subjects and learning opportunities for young people.
This will be achieved through a flexible learning environment, offering greater personalisation and choice around the subjects you take in school.
This innovative learning approach will help prepare you with key skills for learning, life and work and build your capability for you to successfully enter university, college, or work with the confidence of having acquired the skills and attributes that each environment requires.
Using a blended learning approach (mix of face to face and digital), learning through DG Schools Connect will give you a greater choice of course and the platform to complete your course of study flexibly and at a location best suited to you.
Student requirements
Whilst this is an innovative and exciting learning environment, the blended approach will be better suited to some learners and not to others. You will need to think carefully before applying for your chosen course. The following questions will help you to consider the 3 key skills areas that you will need to ensure success studying at DG Schools Connect:
1. Independent Learning
Before completing the Application, ask yourself:
- Can you plan and organise your own time?
- Are you able to work independently?
- Can you meet deadlines without always needing to be prompted by others?
- Can you plan ahead and remain disciplined enough to carry out that plan?
- Are you prepared to learn in spaces that aren’t traditional school environments?
- Can you be flexible with your time, for example, meet teachers and fellow students via Teams outside of core school hours, if required?

2. Digital Literacy

Being able to adapt, innovate, research, and deliver results are qualities desired by further and higher education establishments and employers. By engaging in this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in working digitally and using the digital tools that are now essential for life for their study and work.
You will get support in this area through an induction programme before embarking on an online course.
3. Communication
As delivery will be a blended model with some ‘live’ face to face learning and some independent learning you will be required to maintain a strong social element to your learning. This will involve:
- Using digital platforms for communicating with teachers and peers to enhance your learning.
- Presenting completed tasks and assignments and homework pieces virtually via Teams.
- Communicating openly and regularly with peers and teachers in relation to coursework and assignments.
