In 2024, the Supporting Learners Management Team carried out an internal review of the Attendance Service. Taking into consideration the high demand for input from the team and the limited capacity available, they have developed a more robust and targeted model of delivery. 

New line management arrangements have been put in place as follows:

Strategic responsibility for the Attendance Team sits with Clare Clanachan, Supporting Learners Manager (East)

The key criteria for referral is that a pupils attendance needs to have fallen below 70% for a request for assistance to the Attendance Service to be considered

Access to the Attendance Service is via requests for assistance only.  Please send RfAs to schoolsattendance@dumgal.gov.uk here they will be triaged prior to being allocated to an Attendance Officer.  The request for assistance will now be screened against the headings below to ensure your RfA meets one or more of the following:

  • 40-70% attendance
  • Support required for primary to secondary transition where absence has been identified as a potential concern.
  • Sustained and concerning absence
  • Pupil is enrolled in P1 – S4

The offer from the Attendance Service will be a time-limited intervention to address one or more of the following causes of absenteeism as detailed in the Dumfries and Galloway Attendance Toolkit.
