The John Muir group have had had a busy couple of weeks, continuing to work on clearing out their pond and research possible changes to the layout.

Given the recent poor weather, they also took the chance to turn the berries they collected last month into jam with great results!

Just a reminder that there will be a charity coffee morning run by S2 on the 27th September from 10:30 to 12:00

lots of stall with games, home baking and second hand stuff to buy.

Come along and support the children and charities.

The John Muir group have been busy working on their school conservation project and they are progressing well.

They have started clearing all the weeds from the old pond and started to think about an updated design for a new pond.

They have also been thinking about what wildlife would be attracted to the pond and how they can add different features to aid this.

S1 pupils from Dalry Secondary School kicked off their geography studies with a visit to the impressive dairy unit at Littleton Farm.

Robert Dodds hosted a tremendous visit, leading the group around the dairy facility and renewables plant. Armed with clipboards and worksheets, the pupils had plenty of questions for Robert and, of course, Robert had all the answers! A lovely class from Dalry Secondary and a great start to a busy year of RHET farm visits ahead in Dumfries & Galloway. Many thanks to Robert for giving up his morning to educate our young people. Thanks also for looking after our Coordinator, with the delivery of a welcome Cappuccino from Galloway Lodge Coffee shop before the school group arrived!

This term the school is running a John Muir award scheme which focuses on local conservation issues. The pupils have been learning about the importance of wild food in autumn to both the local animals and humans.

As part of our conservation work, we are planning to restore our school pond, which has become very overgrown.

Part of this task involves removing some brambles and the pupils decided to make good use of the berries by harvesting them and turning them into jam in the next few weeks.

We will update out progress on the blog as we go.

Pupils returned last week to a new academic year and already they busy planning ahead for a whole range of activities.

There are lots trips and events in the planning, including a coffee morning (27/9)  and a pantomime performance (27/11)

The senior pupils are already thinking ahead to their exams and future destinations.

Last Friday the students joined up with their peers in Castle Douglas on a trip to the Royal Highland Show. A great day was had enjoying the show and making new friends. Many thanks to all those involved in the organisation of the day.
