Remembrance Service

On Friday the 1oth of November, Dalry P7 to S4 took part in a remembrance service to honour the soldiers who died in World War I and II . Mr Goodwin told the poignant story of Robert James Clark who died on the 1st of November 1916. He was part of the Gordon Highlanders. He was from Dalry and you can see his name on the memorial outside Dalry church.

Upcoming Events

On the 3rd of November the S2’s will be visiting the Devils Porridge Museum as part of their history course with Ms Warren.

On Monday 6th of November Mrs Farquhar will be taking a number of students to the Easterbrook Hall to work with Fraser Cameron. The students will experience what it is like to work in a real life restaurant as part of the “Food for Thought” project.

On Thursday the S4’s will take part in mock interviews with Kelly Innes from Natural Power.

Teenage Cancer Trust Coffee Morning

On the 11th of October the S2’s held a coffee morning to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The event was a success, raising £425 for the charity. The event was really well supported by the local community despite the bad weather. We would like to extend our thanks to all those who attended. With special thanks to Lorna Wilson who kindly baked a wonderful cake for the raffle and also to W Bone’s Garage, Tesco and the CO-OP for their generous raffle donations.

Geography Update

The new term has started and Geography classes are currently busy working on a variety of topics. The S1’s are working on a farming unit as part of their Broad General Education course. The S2’s are learning about biomes and currently looking at equatorial rainforests. The S3’s are investigating the Mount St Helens eruption as part of the natural hazards unit. And last but not least the National 5 class are developing their understanding of weather.

S3 investigate rivers while the sun shines

The S3 geography class took advantage of the good weather to investigate their local stretch of the River Ken. The group set about answering two questions:

  1. At what stage upper, middle or lower is the River Ken at Dalry?
  2. What processes are taking place in the River Ken at Dalry?

Through close observation of the river, its sediments and the surrounding landscape the group were able to ascertain that the river was most likely in its middle course. Evidence of attrition, abrasion, hydraulic action, fluvial sorting, deposition and braiding were also observed. Well done S3 geographers!

Fishing activities afternoon off to a flying start

The first two weeks has seen the group practice their fly casting skills. Despite cold temperatures and strong North Westerlies two good sized wild brown trout have been landed. Both fish were taken on an olive dry fly and landed by Rory. With the weather improving every day, prospects for the coming weeks look good.

MacMillan Coffee morning 28.09.16

We need your help! It’s Macmillan coffee morning time again. This year the coffee morning will take place on the 28th of September 10am-12 noon. To make the morning a success we need cakes and lots of them, baked or faked! Also there will be a bric-a-brac stall and raffle so if you have anything that could be donated it would also be much appreciated.
