Dalry pupils added some festive cheer to their day by supporting the Cash for Kids, Christmas Jumper Day. In total we raised £40 for this very worthwhile cause. Merry Christmas!

Last Friday the students joined up with their peers in Castle Douglas on a trip to the Royal Highland Show. A great day was had enjoying the show and making new friends. Many thanks to all those involved in the organisation of the day.

Today the S1’s were learning about the Greenland White-Fronted Goose Project. Calum Murray from the RSPB gave us a great insight into the type of conservation work that the project involves and the environmental factors that influence numbers of the geese wintering in the area. Many thanks to Calum for providing this opportunity.

Today we had Dr Jessica Rodgers from the Galloway Fisheries Trust and Laura Williamson from SRUC in to talk to the S3’s about rural careers. Jessica gave us a fascinating insight into her work in fisheries conservation and Laura provided a valuable insight into the range of qualifications available at the Barony Campus. Many thanks to Shalla at the Crichton Carbon Centre for helping to organise the talks.

The Bin It! Roadshow were in town today to remind us of the importance of keeping our environment litter free. We learned about why people litter and what the consequences are of littering. Thanks to the Bin It! Roadshow for a very enjoyable lesson.

The better weather has allowed us to get out kayaking recently as part of our Wednesday afternoon activities. We had a great paddle around Earlston and next time out we’ll be visiting Carlingwark. Many thanks to the guys at Carlingwark Outdoor Education for making such experiences possible.

Well done to Jessica, Sophie, Campbell, Tori and Lucy for completing their John Muir Discovery Awards.

The John Muir group enjoyed a walk to a local waterfall on Wednesday. Thanks to Alex at Outdoor Education for putting the video together.

The John Muir group were out and about in the Galloway forest. The pupils were challenged to learn new skills in an outdoor setting. Many thanks to Alex from outdoor education for his expertise and encouragement throughout the afternoon.
