Art in Term 2 at Dalry School

S4 –  National 5 Design

S4 Pupils have been very busy finishing their design folios for the SQA. They have completed their development sheets and created their 3d final outcomes pieces. Every pupil has chosen a different theme and a experimented with a range of materials that suited their brief.  We hope you like them. Next term you will see examples of their Expressive folios which will be complete by Easter.

S2 Design

Here are examples of the S2 shoulder pieces that pupils have been creating in the last two weeks. After looking at the work of Peter Chang, pupils used research drawings of natural and man made objects as inspiration for their shoulder pieces.  The designs are made of paper mache, straws, card, polystyrene and coloured paper. The designs are bold and eye-catching with a range of repeated shapes and patterns in the style of Peter Chang.dscf7002 dscf7003 dscf7004 dscf7005 dscf7006 dscf7009 dscf7014 dscf7015 dscf7008

Public Information

Dalry S1 pupils visited New Galloway Town Hall on Friday to learn more about the planned changes to the transmission of electricity through the area. SP Energy staff were generous with their time and the range of jobs involved in the project was outlined by  professionals.  We have lots of information that can be worked on back in school and young people are now better able to take part in informed debate.

Sustainable Living

A four day, three night residential in September exposed young people, S1 to S3, to a wide range of social and educational contexts.

They travelled 1200 miles slept in a country house, a ‘snoozpod’ in a container and in an Ecolodge in Mid Wales.

They experienced how people lived in the past- particularly at the time of the industrial revolution- at the Black Country Living Museum.Image result for cymbeline

A production of Cymbeline in Stratford Upon Avon activated an interest in live theatre and the Eden Project has given lots of ideas as how a Dalry site can be developed- more to come on that later.

The Centre for Alternative Technology guided young people through the various ways in which their lifestyles could become Carbon neutral.

Food for thought.

S1 MUSIC – HALLOWEEN TONE POEMS

S1 created their own TONE POEMS for HALLOWEEN. A tone poem is a piece of music which conveys a story or scene through music. Students planned their compositions, deciding on their choice of instruments and sound effects. Then they practised, recorded and evaluated their work.
