Today the Nursery and Primary pupils took part in the Daily Mile ‘Extra.’ This was a challenge to see how many collective miles we could cover during our Daily Mile session. We had some runners, joggers and walkers all travelling round the pitch counting their laps.
Amazingly, after we had used our timetables and multiplication skills to work out the amount of laps covered by everyone, we revealed that we had travelled 115.2 miles! This is the same distance as Dalry to the most northern point of Loch Lomond, wow, fantastic effort everyone!
For the past two weeks Gardening Club have been preparing for the changes in our season. We have been finishing off our harvest of the beautiful produce we grew over the Spring and Summer, tidying up the flower beds and pots and dead heading the plants. Today the gardeners have been planting lots of bulbs in our pots, we are really looking forward to seeing the beautiful daffodils and hyacinths growing.
Owen and Brodie found some very sneaky baby potatoes a week after our tattie harvest!
Imogen brought in a HUGE sunflower head to show us, we had the great idea of putting the sunflower seeds into the bird feeders to feed the birds. We looked at the patterns the sunflower seeds made in the head, WOW!
As part of our Maths Week P4/5 and P6/7 were visited by Lorraine, a parent of a P2 pupil, who also happens to be a scientist!
The pupils engaged in some hands on and really exciting experiments, looking at chemical reactions. They observed and discussed the effects of mixing various compounds and made some exciting ‘explosions!’ P4/5’s favourite by far was the Coke and salt eruption!

Today some P1-7s were taking part in a Lego Zip Wire challenge.
Mixed age teams of 4 or 5 pupils competed against each other to create a Lego Zip wire to carry Larry the Lego Man a distance of 2 metres across a ‘canyon’
The Success Criteria was very simple, the Zipwire must:
Carry Larry safely across a ‘canyon’ of 2 metres
The carrying device must encase Larry for safety reasons
The zip slide must not come to a crashing stop…ouch!
Larry must land on the other side in one piece
All the zip slides were fantastic and were judged at the end using the success criteria above. The winning team was Group 3; Ruben, Karol, Baillie, Oscar and James. Well done to you!
It’s super to see the all the children back to school, looking smart in their uniforms and well rested after the Summer Holidays. In P6/7 everyone has returned with a spring in their step and have spent this first week getting settled back into routines and getting used to new ones.

On Wednesday, another ‘New Beginning’ called in to see us! Proud brother Ruben was, quite rightly, keen to show off his new sister, Mather, who was born during the holidays. We all agreed that she was very cute and cuddly! Thanks again Ruben and your family for the traditional, Netherlander, celebration ‘cakes’ you brought in for the class.
The boys and girls in primary one and two hosted a garden party to officially open the garden they have been landscaping since March. All the boys and girls have put so much effort and creativity into gardening this term. They enjoyed sharing their learning with staff, pupils and parents. Well done boys and girls all you hard work is starting to show in your lovely garden!
The Paul Jones Football Festival has been a huge success for both our teams this year. The girls and boys’ teams played their socks off in the Festival Final at the weekend in Kirkcudbright in very hot conditions. Although they didn’t win, this time, they made their coach David and the whole school community very proud indeed. For such a small number of pupils and with many never having played a competitive football match before, they showed exemplary resilience, sportsmanship and empathy. Amazing effort everyone!
A HUGE well done to both teams and a MASSIVE thank you to coach David from the players and staff for using your own free time to develop their skills…watch this space for next year!

Friday Fun Time was awash with pallets, tarpaulin, ropes, branches and lots of other random materials today…the P1-7 pupils were participating in ‘Den Building Day 2017.’
Every pupil participating was put into mixed year groups and were given a selection of Success Criteria to work towards:
Den must be freestanding
Den must allow shelter for everyone in your group
Everyone must work together as a T.E.A.M
Think safety!
I think you’ll agree, the results were fantastic!
Next week we will be ‘camping out’ in our shelters, a test if they survive the elements!
