P3,4,5 investigate!

P3,4,5 were set a maths question to investigate this week linked to our new IDL topic Blood, Bile and Body bits:

“Do the tallest people have the biggest head circumference?”

We had a great class discussion about how we would go about answering this question, which lead us into our new numeracy topic – Measurement. The pupils came up with some appropriate instruments and units of measurement that we should use. We decided to use centimetres and metres and use measuring tapes and metre sticks to measure with. We talked about how we would measure a circumference, Lucy was able to tell and show us what a circumference was, well done!

We then got started on measuring our head circumference and heights. This task was quite tricky, as we started to notice everyone was very different.

Here’s Joe getting his head circumference measured by Preston, he looks like he’s having a great time!
