Annual Scots Verse Competition
On 19th February we held our annual Scots Verse competition. Staff were delighted that Mr Mike Duguid was once again able to visit the school and listen to the pupils reciting their poems and decide the first, second and third places in each year group. The pupils who were given a place will now represent Kells at the Galloway Music Festival in March. Well done to all the pupils involved!
British Heart Foundation
On Friday 6th February the three schools in the Glenkens Cluster supported the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Wear it. Beat it’ campaign.
Dalry Nursery, Primary and Secondary plus the pupils of Carsphairn and Kells were encouraged to wear red on that day and show their support by making a £1 donation to the charity.
In total £202.10 was raised to help the British Heart Foundation’s campaign to fund research to transform the lives of children and adults living with heart and circulatory conditions.
Well done!

Kells Annual Burns Supper
The pupils of Kells Primary School paid tribute to Scotland’s national bard when they held their annual Burns Supper recently.
The evening was hosted by primary seven pupils.
Guests, pupils, staff, parents and families were treated to speeches and entertainment provided by P5, P6 and P7 pupils.
Florrie delivered the welcome address and introduced the guests and speakers. She then recited the Selkirk Grace.
AJ carried in the haggis to the skirl o’ the pipes played by Glen Cunningham. This was followed by the Georgiana, Amy, Finlay and Hardie reciting the Address To A Haggis after which the P5 and P6 pupils helped serve haggis, neeps and tatties to the guests.
After the supper, Amy and Laura delivered the Immortal Memory.
The Toast to the Lassies was presented by Finlay and Hardie. Evie and Georgiana made the reply on behalf of the lassies.
After the traditional speeches, P5-7 pupils recited Scots verse and sang the Dark Island, Brochan Lom and the Island Spinning Song.
Thank you to all the parents who supported the Burns Supper.
Christmas Concert 2014
The Christmas Concert was held on the afternoon and evening of Tuesday 16th December. P1-4 opened the concert with the recorder group playing ‘Ode to Joy’ then the whole class sang ‘Christmas Dinner’ and ‘Jingle Bells.’ P5-7 then performed ‘Children of the World’ to parents and friends of the school. The musical explored Christmas traditions in specific countries around the world. P5-7 worked really hard this term to learn new songs, lines, stage directions and also numerous costume changes. Well done to both classes on their super performances!

Macmillan Coffee Morning
Pupils in P7 at Kells Primary raised over £700 (so far) by hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Cross Keys Hotel in New Galloway. Pupils planned and advertised the coffee morning and served parents and friends on the day. They also made collection tins for local businesses to collect donations for the charity. The pupils would like to thank everyone from the local community who supported the event.
Well done P7!
