Galloway Music Festival Successes

All the pupils from Kells competed in this year’s Galloway Music Festival. The P1-4 class performed well in the non-competitive Action Song category.

P5-7 won the small schools choir competition. The Lindsay Singers cup is now proudly displayed in our trophy cabinet.

In the P7 Scots Verse competition, Bronnen came first and Jasmin came third.

Charlotte was first in the Penny Whistle class.

We had quite a few successes in the Vocal Solos. Florrie was first in the beginners class with Amy second.  Georgiana was first in grade one with Charlotte second. Jasmin was second in Grade two. And finally Bronnen was first equal in grade three.

Bronnen also won the Poem Monologue and the Scots Song Solo and came second in the Prose Reading.

Well done to all the pupils!

‘Live Music Now’ Visit

Fraser Langton and Juliette Philogene from Live Music Now visited P5-7 for the second session on ‘Pitch, Pulse and Magic.’ The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the one hour session, which included listening to Fraser and Juliette playing ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and then discussing particular parts of that piece of music. Fraser and Juliette also gave some of the pupils the opportunity to conduct them while they were playing the clarinet and piano.

Kells Musical Cafe

The PTA organised a Musical Cafe on Thursday 19th December to raise money for school funds. Both classes sang songs to entertain parents and friends of the school while they enjoyed a cup of coffee and some home-baking. There were also a few stalls for people to purchase from and the Christmas Raffle was drawn at the very end of the afternoon. In total £517 was raised. Well done to all involved!

P1-4 performed 'Hey Ewe' Songs
Lucky Dip was popular
P5-7 performed 'Rattlin' Bog' (with help from Feis Rois)

Live Music Now!

Primary 5-7 enjoyed a visit from Live Music Now on Monday 11th November. Live Music Now are delivering a project in Dumfries & Galloway schools which is titled ‘Pitch, Pulse and Magic.’ The pupils listened to Elanor Gunn playing the violin and Julia Wagner playing the cello. They discussed in detail the different types of music they play as well as demonstrating some of the techniques used to create sound on their particular instrument. They also taught the class a few songs.

Christmas Concert 2012

This year’s Christmas Concert was on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday 19th December. P1-4 opened the concert by playing a tune on their recorders and then singing ‘Jingle Bells.’ P5-7 then performed ‘The Angry Hotel Man.’  The raffle for the Christmas Hamper was drawn at the end of the performance by the PTA. The winner was Miss J.  McQueen.  The evening was concluded with the parents and friends enjoying refreshments,  mince pies and shortbread.  Well done to all the pupils who performed!

RSNO Visit to P5-7

Musicians from the royal Scottish National Orchestra visited the school for two sessions in October and November to work with the upper pupils. The pupils worked on a project titled, Supersonic. The pupils were involved in singing activities as well as creative music making. We were also fortunate to hear the very talented musicians playing their instruments.
