Blood Bike Visit

Recently Judith Sauberlich and Dave Hook from Dumfries & Galloway Blood Bikes visited Kells. The pupils were told all about the voluntary service where blood and medical supplies are transported around the region from one hospital to another. They also got the opportunity to ask questions, and more importantly, sit on the motorbike. The pupils also came up with some fundraising ideas for later in the school year to raise money to support the work of this valuable service.

Big Dance Pledge 2016

P5/6/7 were invited to participate in The Big Dance Pledge at the Catstrand on the 20th May. The Big Dance Pledge was a free opportunity to learn an original choreography, then perform it as part of a worldwide performance day. The choreographer this year was Akram Khan. After the performance, the children were joined by the ladies from the local dance club for a sponsored Danceathon for Dementia UK. Thank you to Sara Lockwood from the Catstrand for organising the event.

British Heart Foundation

On Friday 6th February the three schools in the Glenkens Cluster supported the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Wear it. Beat it’ campaign.

Dalry Nursery, Primary and Secondary plus the pupils of Carsphairn and Kells were encouraged to wear red on that day and show their support by making a £1 donation to the charity.

In total £202.10 was raised to help the British Heart Foundation’s campaign to fund research to transform the lives of children and adults living with heart and circulatory conditions.

Well done!

Philippines Fundraiser

Three enterprising young pupils from Kells have been raising money for the Philippines Typhoon Appeal. Bronnen, Jasmin and Rory worked together and without any adult support to raise the astonishing sum of £229.85. They placed collection jars in local shops and also recently completed a sponsored bike ride. The children would like to say a big thank you to everyone from the Glenkens who sponsored them.
