Kells Primary celebrated what would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday on the 13th September. Both classes enjoyed dressing up as their favourite characters and participating in lots of activities inspired by his books.

Big Dance Pledge 2016
P5/6/7 were invited to participate in The Big Dance Pledge at the Catstrand on the 20th May. The Big Dance Pledge was a free opportunity to learn an original choreography, then perform it as part of a worldwide performance day. The choreographer this year was Akram Khan. After the performance, the children were joined by the ladies from the local dance club for a sponsored Danceathon for Dementia UK. Thank you to Sara Lockwood from the Catstrand for organising the event.
Wing Commander Mike Duguid (Retired)
Friend of Kells, Mike Duguid, visited P5/6/7 recently to speak to the pupils about the RAF’s involvement in World War 2 as part of their current topic. The children were especially keen to find out about the Dambusters. Mike spoke to the class, answered their questions as well as demonstrating the science behind the bouncing bomb and why these missions were important to the war effort. Mike also arrived in his old RAF uniform. Here are some photographs –

The Selkirk Grace was recited by Lewis. Lewis also carried in the haggis to the skirl o’ the pipes. This was followed by the Charlotte, Stewart, Ben and Arran reciting the Address To A Haggis. P5 and P6 pupils helped serve haggis, neeps and tatties to the pupils, staff and guests. After the lunch, Arran delivered the Immortal Memory. The Toast to the Lassies was presented by Ben. Charlotte made the reply on behalf of the lassies. After the traditional speeches, the pupils who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Scots verse competition received their certificates. We Three Kings!
The annual Christmas Show was held at Kells on Wednesday 16th December.
The P5-7 class opened the show by playing some music on the tin whistles which was accompanied by guitars and keyboard. They also sang some French songs.
