St Andrew's Primary School Blog

Our friends, The Singing Children of Africa will be joining us again next Wednesday. The children and their teachers will join us for the day here in school and then perform in St. Andrew’s Church in the evening at 7pm. If you would like to listen to one of the songs they will be performing then click on the video link below. They will also be performing at the Plainstanes, Midsteeple on Tuesday 6th of September at4pm till 6pm.

Our Primary one children have now been with us for a couple of days. They are making a super start to their time at St. Andrew’s. We wish them a restful weekend before they join us again next week.

This week we welcomed our new Primary 1 children in to the St Andrew’s School Community.  They have had a great start making new friends and getting to know their way around the school.  As you can see from our photos lunchtime was very popular!

We’d like to welcome everyone back to school after our annual summer break. We have lots of new children and adults joining us this term. You are all most welcome to St. Andrew’s. We hope that you find it to be a friendly and supportive place to learn.

We would like to wish everyone a happy and safe summer holiday. We wish our outgoing primary seven class well  when they start their new schools in August.

Staff return to school on Wednesday 17th of August.

Children return to school on Thursday 18th of August.

Primary 5/6 couldn’t believe their eyes today, when Mrs Kerr showed them a square of tartan plaid, that had been part of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s original kilt when he came to Scotland on his Jacobite Quest in 1745. They imagined him cowering underneath  it on the cold nights when he was hiding in Cluny’s Cage.

The inscription reads: ” A piece of the plaid worn by Prince Charles Edward Stuart at the Battle of Culloden, and left by him at his James MacIntosh Hall, Chief of the Clan Chattons”.

They then produced some fabulous creative writing pieces, in a genre of the children’s choice, and Mrs Kerr is looking forward to reading through some poems, imaginative stories, letters and newspaper reports tonight!

As part of our healthy bodies topic, we have been learning about the different food that contribute to a healthy diet. Tesco kindly let us visit to investigate these food groups further.

In a return to our annual match against St. Teresa’s, we put forward a mixed team of P5-7 pupils. After a tightly fought match, St. Andrew’s managed to win through. Well done to all! It is good to have the   trophy back in our trophy cabinet.
