Today was the first of our Tuesday morning running clubs. The weather was very kind to us as we set off bright and early to the Dock Park. Today we covered around 2.3km and we are planning on building this up over the weeks ahead.

Wednesday Walk Around!
Another walk around our school this week saw lots of different activities taking place. Primary 3 had a bridge building design challenge. They were using paper to create a bridge strong enough to carry the toy car across. As you can see there was lots of concentration and smiles of success! P3 have also been working on story settings this week and this afternoon they were busy painting their own settings using their senses to help them.
Primary 4 were designing ‘Staying Healthy’ posters this morning. These will be put up around our school to remind everyone of some of the steps we can take for a healthy lifestyle.
Primary 7 were busy working on Leavers Hoodie designs whilst Primary 1 were out on their daily hop skip and jump!
Primary 6 wanted to share their ‘Humans and The Environment’ display which they had worked hard on for World Earth Day!
Here are some photos for you to enjoy.
P4 Karate Session
P4 are comparing Scotland to Japan this term. They had great fun speaking Japanese, learning about Japanese culture and trying some Karate moves this week with Alan from the Dumfries Wado Kai Association. Thanks to Active Schools for helping us arrange it. Watch this space as there could possibly be an after school karate club coming up next term!
Our Learning Train
This month’s focus on ‘Our Learning Train’ is Outdoor Learning. The children decided this theme as outdoor learning has been a focus in our school this year. From Nursery to Primary 7 the children have been taking advantage of our outdoor areas to grow their learning in a variety of curricular areas.
The Learning Train allows all the children in the school to share what they have been doing . The children enjoy seeing and discussing what the other classes have been up to as well.
Daily Mile Fun!
A Busy Few Days!
This week a walk around our school found Primary 2 busy working on their ICT skills. The children were learning how to log on to the laptops then use a drawing programme to practise writing their spelling words. It was very quiet with all the concentration and it looks like they will be ICT experts in no time at all!
Primary 1 were outside having fun playing games with our colourful parachute. It was taking a lot of team work to get the football to go in to the hole in the middle. There were lots of cheers when they were successful.
Primary 3 have been creating and writing about characters over the last few weeks so this week they decided to go to the woodland area and create characters from the natural materials there.
St Joseph’s 6th Year STEM Ambassadors
Today Primary 7 were doing a task set by the 6th Year STEM Ambassadors from St Joseph’s. During the year this group would normally be involved with our children helping with the Science Fair. However, as this can not take place this year they emailed a powerpoint they had created for our Primary 7 children to follow and complete the activities. Today we were investigating circuits and electricity, using the correct symbols to represent a circuit and creating our own circuits. Here are a few photos of Primary 7 in action:
A Sunny Primary 2!
What’s Going On Around Our School?
A walk around our school this afternoon showed a great variety of learning activities going on. Primary 5 were busy practising their throwing skills. Primary 4 had decided to make the most of the sunshine and share their Big Writing with each other outdoors. Primary 2 were busy with some beautiful handwriting whilst others were creating colourful fruit salads. Primary 1 were in the woodland area using their senses to try to catch some hiding bears! I am not sure if they found any!
