Last night saw the final of the Dumfries Rotary Primary Speech Making Competition, held once again at St. Andrew’s. Our school has a proud tradition of young people performing well and once again we were lucky to have an excellent speaker representing us. Matthew talked about a Glaswegian’s perspective of Dumfries and how he is now proud to be called a Doonhamer. He was entertaining, inventive, and natural in the way he performed his speech. Although he lost out on the big prize, his performance was to be proud of and one that the audience really appreciated.

Primary 6 Celebration of Learning
Primary 6 certainly had a busy day today! This afternoon they welcomed parents and grandparents to their Celebration of Learning. The children worked very hard in preparation for their afternoon and enjoyed showing everyone what they have been learning. Well Done to the parents who came dressed in pyjamas as part of World Book Day and those who had a go at Cheerleading and Rugby.
World Book Day Primary 6
World Book Day Fun!
Today our school looked like a very different place, when children (and adults!) came to school in their pyjamas with their favourite bed time stories. This was all part of our World Book Day celebrations. In Primary 1 we welcomed Primary 6 to share our stories. It was a great opportunity to talk about our favourite stories, settings and characters. Here are some photos of our shared reading time.
Confirmations 2017
Last Friday some of the children in our P4 class made their Confirmation along with children from the parishes of St. Teresa’s, Lockerbie and Annan. Bishop William Nolan conferred the sacrament the sacrament upon the children. The sacrament is part of the sacraments of initiation, and therefore linked with Baptism.
Congratulations to all involved.
Primary 2 Super Computing Teachers!
Today Primary 1 had a super new set of teachers in the class when Primary 2 children came in to give them a computing lesson! Primary 2 showed Primary 1 how to log on and then gave them a quick tour of Kodu Game Lab and 2simple 2paint on the laptops.
Primary 1 had a great time and were very grateful to Primary 2 for sharing their knowledge. Mrs Davidson and Miss Guy learned some new computing skills too.
Thank You Primary 2!
Celebration of Learning in P7
Primary 7 had a great show of their learning this term on Wednesday 8th of February. They did a fantastic job of showing off their French speaking as well as their style in the fashion show ‘Defile de Mode.’ The science demonstrations kept everyone very interested and informed especially the fake blood making! Some of you were even put through your paces with Reign and Ben’s shape quiz. Thank you again for coming along. The children really enjoyed the afternoon and did so well.
P7 Scottish Enterprise
P7 have been raising funds for their end of primary school trip. We have been decorating mugs with Scottish designs including our own family tartans and crests. On Thursday we went across to St Joe’s and Mrs Chalk taught us how to make shortbread to sell with the mugs. Thank you to everyone who supported our Enterprise, it’s been fun and very worthwhile. Here’s a few photos of us baking!
