Today 10 of our P6 and P7 pupils competed in Nithsdale Primary Schools Championships. Each category had around 70 competitors and our children all performed brilliantly and we even had smiles at the end of the races. A special congratulations goes to Leah of P7 who came in 2nd out of the 78 runners competing in the P7 Girls category. Well done to all involved (and we also agreed it was slightly warmer than last year!)
Twelve pupils from Primary 6 and Primary 7 travelled to St. Andrew’s Bridge Club in Glasgow to participate in a Mini Bridge competition against schools from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ayr and Troon. All children played very well and finished 4th, 13th & 14th, a fantastic result. The children enjoyed the experience and Mr & Mrs Thomson (Loreburn Bridge Club) and Mrs Barnett were extremely proud of the way the children conducted themselves both on the bus journey and throughout the competition. Well Done everyone.
P2 enjoyed the Spring sunshine in the forest on Friday (16th March). This week we were looking for signs of living things. We used binoculars, magnifying glasses and bug catchers to explore the forest. Of course we had a little bit of time at the end to enjoy some free time.
On Friday 16th March, Primary 6 visited Crochmore Farm near Crocketford to learn more about the journey of milk from the farm to the supermarket. Angus Kerr was a great host and the children had a fantastic time, the highlight for most being the calving shed.
Several of our pupils have been competing in Nithsdale Active Schools cross country events over recent months. We would like to congratulate them all on their efforts, special congratulations go to Euan who finished in 1st place in the P5 boys competition and Leah who finished 1st in the P7 girls section. Well done to all involved.
Primary 1 would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Primary 2 for being our computer experts this afternoon. P1 children are learning to use their own log ins for the computers and P2 proved to be expert teachers showing us how it is done – thanks again P2!
It was lovely to have Bishop Nolan visit our school last week. He visited all classes and shared information about his life. Many pupils enjoyed trying on some of the special garments he wears and he answered some great questions from P
6.

This year we have been very lucky to have help with our PE from S6 St Joseph’s College pupil Adam Kirk. Adam is hoping to pursue a career in PE and has been getting experience in this area in several of our classes. Today was Adam’s last day with us as he now goes off to concentrate on his studies. We wish him good luck in the future! Jack handed over a little Easter gift to show our appreciation.
P7 took on a real challenge on Wednesday 14th March and climbed to the very top of Criffel, the route we were on was very steep and muddy in places so it was certainly not easy. Everyone showed great determination and team spirit along the way. Well done P7!
