Victorian Toys

Today as part of our Marvellous Monday activities P3 found out about toys children played with in Victorian times.  We listed similarities and differences between toys in the past and toys today.  We also discovered that there were several differences between the toys the rich Victorian children played with and those played with by the poor children at this time.

After having done this research we had time to try making some Victorian toys of our own.  We made ball and cup games and thaumatropes.  A thaumatrope is made by creating two separate images which when put together and twisted quickly appear to blend together to make one image! We had great fun creating these including a fish in a bowl and a bird in a cage.  You can see some of our finished work below:

Celebrating the Scots Language

Today we had a special assembly celebrating the Scots language.  Miss Gilfillan told us how important it was to celebrate our heritage and find out more about the country we are all part of.   Each class performed for the rest of the school.  We had poems, songs, dances and even some audience participation!

Please have a look at some of the action in the photos below:

Christmas Dress Up Day

We will be holding a Christmassy theme day on Tuesday 22nd December.  Children can wear anything Christmassy including Santa hats, Christmas hair band, tinsel, Christmas jumpers and Christmas costumes.

Children are to bring in 50p which will go towards the Carlisle Flood Fund.

Primary 3 have been busy making posters to advertise this day.

End of Topic Treat

In Primary 3 we have been looking at Food and Farming this term.  Today we ended our topic by making fruit salads.  We discovered fruits only grew in Scotland at certain times of year so we were interested to discover why they were still available in our shops all year round.  In our fruit salads we had satsumas from Turkey, bananas from Cameroon, grapes from Brazil and apples from Belgium.

Here are some pictures of us busy preparing our treat!

St Andrew’s Day Fun

Our school have been busy celebrating Our Patron Saint’s Day.  Our day started with our very talented P7 pupil piping us in to school.  We then had a whole school assembly where we reflected on the life of St Andrew.  After this we all got to do 3 different activities including:

Baking, Country Dancing, Clay Modelling, Disco, Techno Challenge, Arts and Crafts, Indoor Curling, Games Room, Team Games, Nursery and Table Tennis.

All the children mixed together and the older children were a great help with the younger ones.

As C-Jay from P3 noted, “This is my favourite school day ever!”
