On Friday the whole school joined together on Burns Day to hold a Scots Assembly. Over recent weeks all classes and nursery have been learning about the Scots language and some have also been looking at Scottish history.
All the children took part in the assembly and enjoyed sharing a great variety of Scots poems, songs and dances. Some super props had been created too!

Over the last few weeks we have been working on using shape and colour to create artwork inspired by the artist Piet Mondrian. We used primary colours and arranged shapes on bottles and paper in an abstract way. We were very happy with our final display!
For our role play area in Primary 1 we decided to have an opticians shop. We are enjoying filling in forms, talking on the phone to customers, checking our eye sight and wearing lots of colourful glasses. (Appointments are available on request!)

On Friday 30th November we had a very busy day in St Andrew’s RC Primary celebrating St Andrew’s Day. This is a very special day for us as St Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland, Our Parish and Our School.
Our celebrations started before the school bell rang with our talented past pupil, Lauren Kerr from St Joseph’s College, piping us in to school.
Once we were all in and settled we started the day with a St Andrew’s Day Assembly. We then split into groups and had the chance to do different activities including; baking, woodland fun, arts and crafts and football.
In the afternoon we had an extra surprise when we were lucky enough to have the amazing Magic Monty visit us and do a special Magic Show for us all.
It really was a fantastic day and a great way of celebrating Our Patron Saint’s Day.
Today Primary 1 welcomed their grown ups in to share some of their learning. As this is Book Week Scotland the children decided to share some of the work they had been doing on the books in their free book bag.
First the children sang a French song about the colours then it was the grown ups turn to do some work too. They had a go at three different activities:
Finally we thanked them all for coming and each child got their book bag to take home!
This week in Primary 1 we have been learning all about keeping safe near the roads. As part of this we were looking at the different traffic that passed by our busy school. We carried out a survey to count all the different types; we saw cars, buses, motor cycles and vans.
Today it was time for more gymnastics fun with Mr Sharp. We had a great time experimenting with all the equipment and trying out our balances, turns, climbing and rolls. Next week will be our last gymnastics lesson in this block and Mr Sharp has promised us we can get the equipment out again – we can’t wait!
We are delighted to announce that our school has been awarded the Gold School Sport Scotland Award. As noted by Sport Scotland:
We had a rather wet start to our first Running Club outing for this session but this did not put the 19 children off who braved the conditions and the early start! After our warm up we headed down to the Dock Park where we did some circuits and relays before heading back just in time for the morning bell.
Today we were using the netbooks to draw someone who helps keep us safe. We found using the mouse pad quite tricky at first but we were getting pretty good by the end of our session. We will keep practising!
