Primary 1 Bake Sale for SCIAF

On Friday Primary 1 held a Bake Sale with money raised going to SCIAF (The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund).  The children had been busy baking all week in school and also very kindly brought in donations of cakes and candy.

The children loved being the shop keepers and selling the cakes they had made.  We also made sure P1 had a chance to buy and sample some tasty treats!

We would like to thank everyone that donated and bought from us on the day – we raised an amazing £230!

Dinner Hall Prize Table

Last week our House Captains spoke at assembly about a new rewards system for our dinner hall.  The children helped develop a set of good manners posters for everyone to follow whilst having dinner together.  People who follow these rules well get their name entered in a prize draw.  Six names then get drawn at a assembly and these children get to choose a friend and sit at the prize table that day.

Here is a photo of  some of our prize winners enjoying their lunch.  Well done on the super manners!

More World Book Day Fun!

Our School and Nursery celebrated World Book Day yesterday with a super variety of activities.  The children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters.  We all gathered in the hall for a special parade to show each other our amazing character costumes.

The American students from Tennessee who have been working in our garden area this week thought the children looked fantastic!

All classes also paired up to do reading activities together with the older children helping read favourite books to our younger children.   It was a fun filled day as you can see from some of the photos below:

Gold School Sports Award

We were delighted to receive the Gold School Sports Award from Sports Scotland at a special assembly this week.  Our school was assessed on the quality of physical education and school sport, links to community sport, and opportunities for all children and young people to engage, participate and reach their potential in this area.  In particular we were praised  for our leadership programme and our celebration of success through the school blog and pupil achievement books.

The school received  a certificate and a flag.  The photo below appeared in the Dumfries and Galloway Standard and shows our sports committee members celebrating their success:

P1 Homework Challenge

Primary 1 were recently set a homework challenge which combined their topic work on buildings in our environment and maths work on 3d Shape.  The children were to use junk 3d shapes to create a building in our town.  All the creations were amazing and we had such a variety including post offices, pizza shops, burger shops, garages, supermarkets, cafes and cinemas!

The children loved talking about their models and sharing them with other classes and adults at our soft finish.
