P6 Pope Francis School Project

We are currently sorting out fundraising days for the school. We are half way through packing the bags for the less able children in Africa.

In the Primary 6 class they are working with Mary’s Meals to help the children of Africa to learn and live a life not having to worry about their education. Primary 6 are helping Mary’s Meals to work towards their Pope Francis Faith Award school project (Mary’s Meals backpack project).

We would be grateful if you could donate any of the items listed on posters around school and in office window. The donation boxes will be at the back of St Andrew’s church and at the door of Primary 6 classroom (all donations have to be in by 20th May)

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Minibridge Competition in Glasgow

On Tuesday 14th March, 12 pupils from Primary 6 and 7 travelled to Glasgow to take part in the Scottish Bridge Union Minibridge competition. All 3 teams played extremely well and came a respectable 7th and joint 11th out of 18 teams. This was no easy task playing against well established teams while only learning the game themselves since last November. All pupils were a credit to the school. A fun day was had by all.

Primary 6 visit St. Joseph’s HE department

On Thursday 9th and Friday 10th March Primary 6 visited Mrs Chalk in the HE department at St. Joseph’s College. Mrs Chalk spoke to the children about what they had learned in their topic on Food including what we use our senses for when cooking and eating. They discussed safety and hygiene in the kitchen from preparation to clearing away. The children then made fruit kebabs and pancakes while thinking about the appearance, texture and taste of the food. Mrs Chalk, Mrs Barnett and the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are keen to arrange the next visit.

Primary 6 Celebration of Learning

Primary 6 certainly had a busy day today! This afternoon they welcomed parents and grandparents to their Celebration of Learning. The children worked very hard in preparation for their afternoon and enjoyed showing everyone what they have been learning. Well Done to the parents who came dressed in pyjamas as part of World Book Day and those who had a go at Cheerleading and Rugby.

After learning about French Christmas traditions, Primary 6 & 7 held a French Christmas party. They enjoyed playing Twister with the caller giving the instructions in French. This was followed by a buffet where the children tasted croissants, pain au chocolat, baguette with cherry jam and buche de noel with hot chocolate or fruit juice to drink. After, the children made a Christmas card which they gave to someone in their class. During the party the children had left their shoes in the corridor and, when they went to put them back on at home time, Pere Noel had left sweets in their shoes (a French tradition where children leave a shoe by the fireplace for Father Christmas to place sweets in. It was a fun filled afternoon. Thank you to Mrs McGill for helping with our research and pronunciation, particularly hand (main), foot (pied), left (gauche) and right (droit)

Primary 6 Creative Homework

Primary 6 were asked to choose a make and model of plane built and flown between 1914 and 1945. They had to research information about their chosen plane including where and when was it built, what purpose was it built for and who designed and built it. They also had to think about how advances in technology would have helped in the construction and performance of the plane if it had been built today.

The children worked very hard on their homework and came up with some excellent posters and models. They are now proudly displayed outside the Primary 6 classroom. pope-francis-and-creative-homework-011 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-012 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-013 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-014 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-016 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-017 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-018 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-019 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-020 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-021 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-022 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-023 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-024 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-025 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-027 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-028 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-029 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-030 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-031 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-032 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-033 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-034 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-035lights-camel-action-25-11-16-074lights-camel-action-25-11-16-076lights-camel-action-25-11-16-075 pope-francis-and-creative-homework-036

On Monday 6th June P4/5 went on a trip to Stirling Castle and Bannockburn as part of their topic on The Scottish Wars of Independence. The children had a brilliant time and learned lots from Mark and Lesley from Solway Tours. The children behaved perfectly and were a credit to the school.
