This week P4 learned how to create code on Code.org Dance Party. They had so much fun choosing their own background, music, characters and moves in the tutorial. Well done to David Molka for going home and practising more then uploading his work to Teams for everyone to enjoy! I look forward to more of you sharing your learning with me in this new transition to on-line, home learning!

P5 Visit to Georgetown Library
Last Wednesday morning P5 visited Georgetown Library. The staff at Georgetown library showed us around the non-fiction section and taught us how to use the Dewey Decimal System to find what we were looking for. We also completed some activities using the non-fiction section of the library. This has really helped us to build on our knowledge of non-fiction texts which has been a focus for this term.

Georgetown Library Visit for P4
Primary 4 were Responsible Citizens this morning, making use of their local library to enhance their learning about non-fiction and learning how to return books very carefully to their correct place. They heard all about The Dewey Decimal System, the classification system used in libraries,to order books by subject. They then did some challenges finding information from the non-fiction book of their choice and cracking a fun code using Dewey Decimal numbers to find the missing words. Bibi loved finding a book on Anne Frank as she was that character at World Book Day last week and David loved the Science books as Science is one of his favourite subjects! The lovely librarians would be sure to have us back as everyone was so well-behaved and hard-working. It was a super morning for us all.
World Book Day Fun!
Today the school is bright and colourful with children (and staff) dressed as their favourite book characters.
Classes met this morning in the hall to take part in our parade and share their amazing outfits! There are a number of book related activities going on today and we even have some classes from St Michael’s Primary joining us to do activities with the children.
During Lent we are also holding a Book Swap to raise funds for SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund). Children are welcome to bring in a book they have enjoyed reading but no longer want and place it on our book case at the front of the school. For a small donation they are then welcome to take a new book for home.
P5 Viking Projects
Primary 5 have been working hard and learning about The Vikings this term. They have recently completed projects on the topic. These projects were researched and completed at home, and then the children brought them in and presented them to the rest of the class, sharing what they had learned.
The children chose different areas of the topic to look into, from the weapons they used, to the food they ate and everything in between! They also chose how they wanted to carry out the project. Some got creative, making posters and models; others were working on their ICT skills making PowerPoint presentations. We even had children who did a combination of ideas!
We then invited our families in to look at all of the projects together. This was a great chance for the children to show off their projects, and for mums, dads and family members to come and see what other people in our class had been creating and ask them questions about their projects too.
The children have worked so hard, researching, creating and presenting their projects. We hope that our families enjoyed looking at them too!
Celebration of Learning in Primary 4
P4 had a super afternoon sharing their learning with mums, dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles on Tuesday.
Zac and Daniel made a Powerpoint to show about the use of magnetics in trains. Whilst other boys and girls worked well designing magnetic games for their parents to play. Some of our visitors were shocked to see us drawing tracks for cars on or tables with fun chalk pens! It was great to see Sion and Milli incorporating maths times tables questions into the scoring too!
To learn about Non-fiction some of us were in the library trying to complete a Scavenger hunt, whilst in the hall some groups taught The Flying Scotsman to the adults. Well done all those who joined in with the fun.
We showed off our new Green Screen skills with our News Presentations from Stirling Castle and the Newsroom! Not to mention singing in French and trying some K-Nex challenges.
We hope our mums and dads had as much fun as we did learning and playing together.
Morning Jog Club
This week saw the start of our next 4 week job club block. The children met at the school bright and early on Tuesday morning and headed down to the Dock Park for circuits and some relays. We hope to build up our stamina over the weeks and increase our continued jogging time. Our couch Angela was impressed with how well we did in week 1, a lot of the boys and girls showed the jogging skills they have built up from attending the local Park Run at the weekends.
For the first week we were lucky with the weather so fingers crossed for 3 more weeks of the same!
