Nithsdale Badminton Competition
Morning Jog Club
This week 19 children took part in the first of our 4 jog club sessions. It was an early start as we left the school at 8.30am returning just in time for the start of the school day. We headed down to the Dock Park and completed a circuit of the park and some relays. It was great fun and thankfully the weather was kind to us. Even the adults helping survived the experience without any injuries!!
Primary 6 Celebration of Learning
On Thursday 22nd February, Primary 6 welcomed their families in to class to share their work. The children planned a busy afternoon where the work on show included Samson Maths, Art techniques and French. The children shared what they had learned during their mini topic on the Winter Olympics and had compiled a general knowledge quiz to test the adults. Mr & Mrs Thomson from Loreburn Bridge Club were there to demonstrate what the children had been learning in their mini bridge lessons and then the adults were given the opportunity to ‘have a go’ alongside the children. Their amazing creative homework was also on display for everyone to enjoy. As if that wasn’t enough, everyone was encouraged to join in the Around the World game Tyra had prepared and solve the Chuck Close style puzzle of Robert Burns that the children had created with Mrs Kerr. The children worked very hard to organise and run the event. The feedback forms filled in at the end show how just how much the adults enjoyed it too. Well Done P6!

Icon Mass For Catholic Education
Icon Mass for Catholic Education in Dumfries and Galloway.
Jesus Our Teacher- This is the name of the icon that has been specially commissioned to mark 100 years since Catholic Education was brought under government control in Scotland. Today, at St. Teresa’s Church our P5,6 and 7 pupils joined pupils from St. Teresa’s, St. Columba’s and St. Joseph’s College in marking this anniversary. Mass was lead by William Nolan, Bishop of Galloway. Fr. Jim and Fr. Gerald also joined us along with Mr. Colin Grant and Mrs. Elizabeth Gair from the local authority education department. Galloway Diocese is the first to receive a visit from the ‘Jesus Our Teacher’ icon as it begins its journey around the various diocese of Scotland over the course of 2018.
We are Going on a Bear Hunt in Primary 1!
This week we have been looking at the book by Michael Rosen called “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ We loved doing activities relating to this book and we all worked together to create a wall display outside our classroom. We discovered this story had lots of brilliant describing words which we are going to try to use in our writing.
Finally today we went on a bear hunt of our own in the woods. You can see some of the photos of the bears we found below:
Primary 1 Celebration of Learning
Today in Primary 1 we welcomed our grown ups in to class so we could share our learning. The children decided to sing the Scottish song ‘Three Craws’ and recite the poem ‘Mr Ted’, both of which they had performed at a recent Scottish Assembly.
The adults then had some work to do with the children as they went round 3 activities. One group were busy tasting different foods like lemon, crisps and marshmallows and deciding on describing words for these. Another group were creating a pictogram of the classes favourite ice-cream flavours. The final group were making tasty fruit and veg kebabs.
We then finished off by singing, ‘If I was a Butterfly’ and thanking our visitors for all their hard work!
