End of Topic Treat

In Primary 3 we have been looking at Food and Farming this term.  Today we ended our topic by making fruit salads.  We discovered fruits only grew in Scotland at certain times of year so we were interested to discover why they were still available in our shops all year round.  In our fruit salads we had satsumas from Turkey, bananas from Cameroon, grapes from Brazil and apples from Belgium.

Here are some pictures of us busy preparing our treat!

P7 Carlingwark Adventure

Our P7s have just returned from a residential trip to The Carlingwark Centre in Castle Douglas were they did some Hillwalking up Screel (on a very windy day!),  also Orienteering and Mountain biking in Dalbeattie Forest.  The staff at Carlingwark were very impressed with our P7s in all the activities they tackled and I was very proud of the determination, resilience and teamwork that they developed. Everyone learned some new skills and knowledge which hopefully they can build on in the future. Well done P7s!!  Enjoy some photos of our trip.

New Look Library

We have been working on improving our library this past year and although there is still some way to go to get it completely finished we think we have done a good job so far. Everyone has been using the library much more and its a cool place to read and choose books. Thanks to the Parent Council for their help in buying new shelves and adding to our choice of books.

Here’s a look round our new library:

We think it’s colourful and inviting. Each class has added something to brighten up the walls and even tell us about books they would recommend.

Extreme Reading

Thank you to everyone who handed in an extreme reading photo. There are some super entries. Yesterday the Library Committee looked at all the entries and chose their winning entries.

We have made a fantastic display with all the entries.

These are the winners chosen by the library committee. All winners received a book token.

Programming

We have been quietly introducing programming to our curriculum this year. Our children are really taking to it. Here we see Matthew working on an on going project of his. The enthusiasm and ability to latch onto the possibilities that the software offers is hugely encouraging. You can find out more about Scratch and even try it yourself for free via the link on our Homework Activities toolbar at the right hand side of this blog.
