Holywood Hullabaloo

Today, Thursday the 18 of June, Holywood have opened their polling station for their first ever election! Our two present candidates of SHP and FFF are here dressed up and looking smart! Unfortunately our two other candidates from SC and PP are not here today. We have had many people vote already. The whole school is on the electrical register and so are the teachers.

 

we went to sandy hills and saw three barrel jellyfish .Nick lifted them up ! they do not sting when they are dead . But  if he did get stung it does not go through his skin . In first news there is a bit about barrel jellyfish it says that they are the biggest jellyfish in decades they have been washed on the beach by what they eat .They have been left stranded on an island called Portland . They are very big and smelly when dead be careful  when you are paddling in the sea .            By Isla p4

I read the book ‘Deadly Creatures’. I would give it 10/10 stars! I read it to my little sister Hannah; she thought it was a scary book and got frightened. I read it to my big brother Jack; he thought I was great at trying to work out the bigger, new words. My favourite part to read was the ‘Amazing Awards’ bit at the end of the book. Did you know the only poisonous bird is called the Pitohui, it’s feathers and skin are poisonous enough to kill frogs and mice?

I downloaded a poster from the internet all about my book. My mum helped me to do it. We printed it out too.

Sandyhills was really good we got to make sand art on the beach in groups it was brilliant.We walked on the beach to meet Nick and we talked about tides.

My 1 day of swimming. Today

Today primary 3-7 went swimming I was with a lady called Shannon she was a nice lady. The other swim teachers were Michael (my old swim teacher) and Debbie.  We took the register and went in our groups I was with :Elliot Euan Sarah-Jane and Me. Logan joined a little while later while the rest of the group did a star shape to a sausage shape on our backs we also learned more floats as well we did a pencil shape then we went diving for hoops I kept coughing up water a lot it  was great fun I learned lots of  things!

p3-7 went swimming at the ice bowl today we did not go yesterday because we went to sandy hills . The person that teaches us  for the next two weeks will be Debbie . In the group is me Braiden  Keira Jack Ryan Hayden and Kye . We learned how to float like a star a pencil and sausage . The pool was a wee bit cold and very deep it was up to my neck !! We got mini buses there and back I was on the bus with Keira . I had great fun .

This week we started a new topic about living things. we talked about  classification (this means grouping) we sorted our selves into  groups by eye colour, age, attached ear lobes  and tongue rolling.

Miss dale has attached ear lobes and she can roll her tongue!

we also looked at variables (this means differences)

we are undertaking seed growing experiments with variables such as  light/dark, wet/dry, hot/cold, soil/no soil, fertilizer/non-fertilizer.

I chose my variable as wet/dry.

I used two paper towels placed 20 seeds on each

I collected 25 mls of water for one  towel.

I used fertilizer on both towels.

I predict that the towel that is wet towel will grow.

Today we were doing cress experiments as part of our topic on variables. I predicted for my experiment that the cold water would make cress grow faster than if it was watered with boiling water.

Hamish is now officially an author on the Holywood blog!!
