the great barrier of reef[which is next to queen lands Australia] is being threating by crowns of thorns starfish! don’t fear its ok there is a robot that injects them with poisoning liquid that kill them. then they pick up dead starfish there are trying to get rid of the starfish.
Machines On Newsround
Today on Newsround there was a NON–drivable tractor that could move itself around and it could do everything tractors do when humans sit on it but this machine could do it all by itself!
Another story on Newsround was a drone that told farmers when their fields were finished being ploughed by the driver-less tractor.
The last machine story was another drone that went under water instead of in the air. It was made to kill of some species of armoured starfish.

extraordinarily there is no person tractors that are remote controlled by the farmer it helps the farmers to not waste petrol that is done by batteries and every time it runs out they just replace them.
there’s also drones that tell the farmers that there crops are ready to harvest with combine harvesters.
there’s a women how attempted to swim across a bog in only a wet suit and a snorkel it is very hard a bog is really stiff not like a swimming pool it took her a very long time to cross the bog .
star fish destroyer scientist are trying to make a star fish destroyer to kill a species of armoured star fish it injects poison into the star fish.
Driverless tractor awesome Drone
The driverless tractor is a revolution to farmers across the world. The brand is John Deere and is a good brand to make one. I don’t know how it was made but it looks awesome so maybe if your family is a farming family maybe you could get one of these and use it. Now the drone It’s a cool one because is can scan the crops to see if they are ready to harvest using heat censers . So now it is an ordinary drone with a heat censer to scan it
Great to be Back!
It has been a great week at Holywood. Pupils have come back confident and ready to learn. They are being very good to each other – good team work.
John tells me that he felt low when I mentioned a topic on food but is finding it very interesting, this is due to the practical approaches we are taking using the Science on the Menu and Food for Thought resources.
How is this for timing? Shona Muir (NHS) is coming in on the last day of the topic to talk about toothbrushing. We will all know how to keep our teeth in tiptop condition even if we treat ourselves to a less healthy food or drink.

Food And Nutrition
This week primary 4-7 were doing a food and nutrition topic. We investigated how much sugar is in food and drinks. Georgia investigated how much sugar was in a strawberry milkshake bottle it had more sugar in it than a cake and a can of beans. I investigated how much sugar was in a Jaffa cake and a fromage fri and a custard. the fromage frais and the Jaffa cake had the most sugar in them, the custard on the other hand had not as much sugar in it as the Jaffa cake the custard had 7.7g sugar in it. We also investigated how far an egg and banana had travelled. Did you know that our bananas come from Costa Rica?! We tested to see if our eggs floated or sunkto test their freshness. We also made banana posters.

This year our topic is food and nutrition. we are doing journey of a banana on a poster they have 11 days on a ships.
Learning About Food
We are working on food and nutrition in school…
Top things we learned this week:
* Milkshake has a lot of sugar in it.
* If you poach an egg you can tell how fresh it is. If the egg white starts float away and become loose from the yolk your egg is not as fresh as it could be.
* A banana travels thousands of mile to get to the UK – they travel 11 days on a ship. Ethylene gas is used to ripen them before they go to the supermarket.
* Bananas get a bath in chemicals to stop spiders from hanging on for a ride to the UK.
* Low fat yogurt is full of hidden sugar.
Ribena was the juice highest in sugar of the drinks we tested!! Scary!

Food and Nutrition are salt, sugar and health. Ribena was the unhealthiest of the drinks we tested.
Ribena has lots of sugar it has 50g of sugar in the bottle we looked at. More than Irn Bru and Cola.
