TODAY WE DONE WORK ON BRIDGES, DOMES

Mrs O’Neill the new teacher
Miss O’Neill is are new teacher she comes in on a Wednesday and Thursday. We do lots technology stuff like building bridges today we made domes and towers we have great fun she does lots of good exciting technology . we really enjoy having her here we hope she stays
Learning about domes!!!!!!
When we made a dome in p6. It was really fun for a change with me being the only girl . We made a dome but we had to shorten it because it was too big. when we done that the next day we wrote how to make a dome the boys were talking not that fun!

This weeks technology challenge was to make a dome out of cocktail sticks and gum drops. We were working by ourselves to produce a dome. Before we started we had to collect our materials which were 11 gum drops and 25 cocktail sticks. Before we started to build it we were given an instruction sheet to show us how to build the dome. We followed the instruction and put the cocktails sticks into the gum drops in a set out way and we managed to build the dome. After we managed to build the dome we had to draw the dome.
We then had to evaluate how things went when we were working and what we would change for the next time.

Bridges and Domes
Over the past 2 weeks p4-7 have been making structures with Mrs o Neil. On the first week p4 were at a competition so that meant that p5-7 could make some bridges. We looked at many different types of bridges. One of the earliest types of bridges was a beam bridge but when the years came there was loads of types even the Forth road/rail bridges were built a long time ago. Bridges are a fascinating structures and they are fun to go on. After looking at bridges we looked at domes. Domes are these huge stuff on top of places like St Pauls cathedral and other dome places. You can spot a dome at least a mile away from the building.
What we Did
On Wednesday we did a technology challenge p7 built a tower and p6 built a dome p5 built jelly domes .
We built jelly domes then we tested them with the dictionary it at least 1 held 4 dictionaries. It was good p7 team built the highest tower at 1m.50cm in half of hour I was pleased.
p4 built bridges and a train had to go over it they said it was very exciting they worked very hard on it apparently while p6 were trying there bests to impress the teacher p7 were doing well. P7 were rolling up some nice paper spills Braiden and john were the best at rolling paper spills it was very hard we used knitting needles to wrap the paper up to make them tight you have to get the gist Guys.

domes and towers
Today with misses O’Neill we made domes and towers the p7s made a tower at 1.50 meters tall they did very well they had an hour to do it.
The dome group used gumdrops and cocktail sticks to join the sweets together to form a mini dome they also did very well and they used their communication and teamwork skills to build them!
The tower group made a very strong tower it was like the leaning tower of Pisa they were going for the buri kalifa it did not go quiet to plan! but we had great fun also in writing we wrote instructions for making them
Friction – Reducing and Increasing
On Tuesday we did a friction investigation. We watched a video about friction and about air resistance. So they sent me down the hill on a dolly trolley and we made parts to slow me down or speed me up. We took turns to put a part on me but when I was going down the hill I fell off backwards. Miss Dale had a plastic bag and put it on the helmet but I did not come flying off the dolly trolley that time. It was fun learning this – Kye and his partner Hamish managed to speed me up the most!!

Reducing and Increasing Air Resistance
On we Tuesday I was supposed make Dylan slow down but failed it was for are topic and made him go faster. And we all most killed him. Because he went down the hill and flew down the hill hade and all most snapped his neck. But he was warring a helmet so he is ok he did not die it’s a good thing I was not on it. so I balm miss dale for making almost killing Dylan .
