Week in the woods!

Hi Everyone

Yesterday, I made a catapult out of lollipop sticks for “week in the woods”. The instruction the teachers gave us used big bits of wood, but I didn’t have enough, so we used lollipop sticks instead. It was a bit frustrating building it, but it was fun shooting it at my dad.

It went 5m92cm cool right.

Here is how to make it if you want to do it too.

Today I also went on a walk in the woods with Beans (my dog) and my mum.  My mum and I went about identifying trees on our walk (Beans was very busy sniffing the scents so didn’t seem very interested in knowing which trees were which).

Here are some of the trees we found (we downloaded a free app from the Woodland Trust to help us identify the trees)

    • Birch
    • Oak
    • Goat Willow
    • Hazel
    • Norway maple
    • Ash
    • Rowan
    • Common Beech
    • Elder

We also spotted some climbing and parasitic plants (parasitic plants are plants that grow on other plants and gain some of their nutrients from the host) :

  • Honeysuckle
  • Ivy
  • Lichen
  • Moss

We also saw or heard these birds:

  • Grey wagtail
  • Chaffinch
  • Jay
  • Raven
  • Buzard
  • Pheasant

We also some Ermine moth caterpillars who build nests in the willow leafs branches.

See you later

Joe

Monday

Today I’ve been quite busy. First I went shopping with my mum. That didn’t take long. When we got back from the shops I did my Maths. I did some of the textbook. After that I did my English. I started a power point about horses. I am putting the facts that I don’t know on it. Then I did my Spanish. I am using the app Duolingo. I’ve recently started a course on French. That wraps up today’s blog bye. By Orla.

Monday 15th June

Hello,

Today I helped doing the gardening, lighting a fire, melting marshmallows, building a den then had my gymnastics class.  Today in gymnastics we had some fun time, we had to draw our teachers as characters – I picked Minnie & Mickey, then had to spell our names with stuff in the house, I choose Nutella Ice Apple Mickey Hat.  We then worked on some of our shapes and I have to work on my forward roll to straddle sit for next weeks class.

Wild flowers and our den

Today is very warm! We had a great day in the woods, we saw lots of wild flowers and took pictures of them, the foxglove was taller than me and the thistle was as big as Zara!

There were a lot of broken empty egg shells lying everywhere as well.

We checked out all the dens from last year but not much left of them so we built a new one, it was great fun.  I then found a big bouncy branch low to the ground that we could sit on and bounce so I called it a swing saw.  The ground  was quite dry when we arrived but by the time we left it was very muddy and we went home very dirty. 😃
