Rock UK Residential

On Wednesday the 21st of April, P5-7 went to a place called Rock UK in Newcastle ton for three days. Although there were many activities to choose from, we could only pick seven and that made our three days there have a jam packed schedule. The activities we chose were Raft building, Open canoeing, Abseiling, Stream adventure, Kayaking, Climbing and Zip line. The swimming pool, low ropes and scavenger hunt were activities that would be included in our visit anyway.

The bus that would take us to Rock UK arrived at Holywood at 11:00am which meant we had to wait a while for it to arrive. Before we went to Rock UK, we had to pick up the pupils from Duncow since this residential was a joint residential. The journey was roughly an hour. It felt long! Holywood and Duncow arrived around lunch time. Everyone went to their cabins then came out to get their lunch.

Once we had finished our lunch we had to get changed into something we could get wet because our first activity was Raft building. We walked to the Sports hall to meet our instructor. Her name was Lucy. Lucy led us to the loch where most of our activities would be held. When we got to the loch, we had to put on a helmet and split into two groups of seven. My team had Lucy as our instructor and the actual team had Nancy, Anneliese, Nia, Becky, McKenna, Grace and myself. To make our raft, we had to collect our materials. The things we needed were, six lightweight logs and four big barrels. The raft was built in a square that had two logs laid across the middle but close enough to the side that the barrels underneath wouldn’t push through. The four barrels would be placed two on each side under the logs in the middle. Before we went into the loch, we had to put on some buoyancy aids and get a paddle. Once we had done that, the group pushed the raft into the loch and then climbed on one by one. Lucy gave us many fun games to do whilst we were on the raft such as making a Jacuzzi with our feet on the inside of the raft. We also played a game where we had to swap sides with another person on the opposite side of the raft.

The next activity was open canoeing. We had to partner up with someone in our group to be in a canoe with. My partner was Grace. Once we were in the water we played a game called consequences where there was a consequences canoe. The instructors would give you a problem and if that problem occurred to you then you had to move to the consequences. Here is an example… if you have a birthday in either January, February or March, go into the consequences canoe. Since my birthday is on March the 21st I had to go into the consequences canoe. The next game was more of a challenge where you and your partner had to try and tip the front of your canoe as high as you can. Unfortunately Grace and I leaned too far to one side and we flipped our boat over and fell out. Despite the water being cold we still climbed back in and this time purposely tipped the canoe over again. We were also very warm so the cold water was soothing and cool rather than cold. It was funny!!!

After open canoeing, we walked back to our cabins and changed into something dry and warm for the scavenger hunt and low ropes. Once we had changed we went down to the kitchen and had our delicious dinner which was lasagne. Everyone got a bowl of ice cream and strawberry sauce if we wanted it. Next we walked up to the low ropes  and split into teams for the scavenger hunt. Each group had to add an extra item to scavenge for. My group put in that you had to get an instructors autograph. Then once we had collected as many things as we could find we went into the low ropes for a wee bit. We then walked back to the kitchen and had our supper which was a cup of hot chocolate and a chocolate bar.

The next morning after breakfast, my group had abseiling first thing. My partner for the first time I went down the abseiling tower was my best friend Nancy. Here is a picture of us abseiling down.

Rock UK residential (with images!)

On Wednesday the 21st of May we went on a residential to Rock UK in Newcastle ton.   During our visit we enjoyed many thrilling activities we did 7 activities that needed to be instructed they were abseiling, open canoeing, raft building, kayaking, zip line, climbing, stream adventure and swimming pool and 2 that didn’t need an instructor they were low ropes and  scavenger hunt.

The journey there was long because we had to pick up Duncow pupils who were coming with us. Once we arrived in Rock UK we put our stuff in our cabins, had lunch and got started on our activities.

The first activity we did was raft building, we split into two groups of 7 and started building, to build a raft we needed 6 logs and 4 barrels and we had to put four of the logs vertically and the other two on top horizontally then we tied the logs together with about a size seven shoe length in between the bottom ones on the outside. On our rafts we played some teamwork games.

After we did raft building we did open canoeing, for open canoeing we needed a partner and I was partners with McKenna. During open canoeing we did some games, some of the games we played were fruit salad, consequences, and a game where you have to see who can tip the front of their canoe the highest. When me and McKenna did the last challenge we flipped over! After we got out of our canoes we got to jump in the end of the lake, It was very cold!

Once we had finished canoeing we went back to our cabins and got into some dry clothes for dinner, scavenger hunt and low ropes. For dinner we had lasagne and it was really yummy!!

On Wednesday we went to rock UK for our school residential. We got very cosy cabins. The people in my cabin were Daniel , Miller , Owen , Recce and Lewis.

We also did lots of exiting activities including kayaking.

One of the wet activities we did was kayaking. My kayak was yellow and orange. First we got to paddle around and get used to the kayaks. Then we played a game called wold domination. In world domination you pick a country and try and turn other people in to your country. You turn other people into your country by taping the back of there boat 3 times. There was also a slide we got to go down. It was quite tall and white. It was very fast and when you hit the water you got splashed!

The other wet activity I am talking about is canoeing. The canoes could fit 5 people but we only had 2 per canoe. I had Owen in my canoe. First we got to paddle around and chill.  Then we got to play fruit salad. In fruit salad everybody gets a fruit and when the instructor says a fruit everybody that’s that fruit has to jump up and say IM A STRAWBERYY or whatever fruit they are.

Jayda and I were together on the canoeing we were shaking the boat

and we nearly tipped over. It was funny. The activities were all water activates and we got really wet that day. After all that we had dinner then we went to the pool. I and Jayda were playing with a tiny football passing it to each other, once it was time up I had a shower in the showers at the pool Azari used my shampoo. The pool was really fun and funny. Rock UK

Rock UK

On Wednesday to Friday we went to Rock UK for our residential. When we were there we did tons of activities including zip line and abseiling.

We went down a large zip line until we had to get off after two goes.  It was long. At the top there was a platform to go down. There was two cabals to keep you safe and secure. It is around 300 meters to 350 meters long. At the bottom there was two people to catch you.

On my first go I went down with grace after a short time me and Jayde went down.

On the first day my group did abseiling. Abseiling is where you go up a tower and a person clips you in for safety you get belayed down the wall. I was ready to go down until the blindfolds were getting used. I was scared! I went down it was fun I did it again. I went down with Findlay and I was jumping down the wall. A 90 degree angel down one part and 40 degree angel on the other part. One the first part it was slippy on the other part you had a lot of grip.

Would you go to Rock UK
