Our solar system topic by Tas and Na

Mercury  is the closest planet to the sun but it is not the hottest . It has lots of craters and is mostly made of iron.

Venus is a rocky planet like all of the first four planets so Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. It is the hottest planet in the solar system.

Earth is the only planet in the solar system that has life that we know of. It is mainly covered with water.

Mars  has the biggest mountain that we know of in the universe and it is called Olympus Mons. It has a red colour and is sometimes  known as the red planet.

Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system and it is the first gas giant in order.  It has a big red spot which is a storm that is twice the size of Earth!

Saturn has rings that are made of ice, rock and dust. It is made from hydrogen and helium.

Uranus is made from methane and that’s why it smells like rotten eggs! It has a ring around it and it spins on it’s side.

Neptune has 13 moons and is the windiest planet in the solar system. It is really cold, so cold that it even has ice volcanoes on it!

We did some activities like making the planets out of play doh and making craters in flour and coco powder.

Life at a Victorian coal mine By Sam

I can see pitch black, people digging and digging.

I can hear my boss shouting at me and rocks falling and smashing my pic axe.

I can taste ash, dust, dry mouth and  a bit of sweat.

I can feel splinters, burning fire and smooth coal.

I can smell metal, copper and also wet wood.

Life in a Victorian factory By Nancy

I can see black smoke and fire, dirty hot machines, people working the machines, children fixing the machines, people hurting themselves and cobwebs and spiders.

I can hear deafening machines, people coughing and sneezing from a disease or from all the smoke, fire crackling, mice or rats squeaking and my boss shouting at me.

I can taste soot from coal, smoke and mould from food and sweat and ash.

I can feel dust on my clothes, wood and rotting fabric, smooth lumps of coal and dirty machines.

I can smell old food, rotting cloth and material, metal and smoke.
