learning about ww1!

Hi! 😀

We have been learning about world war 1 at school! We made a display with the ww1 trenches and mustard gas or explosion and ww1 houses and children up on the wall. We also watched a short 10 minute film about it.

We are reading a book about Billy Stevens who was in ww1.

Small facts about the trenches:

  • There were lots of rats, as it is a perfect environment for them!
  • The rats in the trenches were GIANT
  • The generals had their own places in the trenches
  • The bit in between is called no man’s land

Goodbye!! 😀 😀

Setting up tents :D

Today we (P5-7) were setting up tents in the hall in groups of three for Residential!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We unfolded the tents and put the poles together. Then we put the poles in little pockets at the bottom of the tent, and clipped the inner tent to them. Then we put the outer layer on top. Afterwards we took the tents down and rolled them up. All the tents were put up and down and at the end we posted blogs… we’re going for residential on the 30th of May to the 1st of June 😀 !!!!!!!!

Easter Day at Holywood!!!!!!!!

Hi!!

On the 19th of April we came back from the Easter holidays, and we were celebrating Easter! It was lots of fun!

We were decorating eggs, and had an egg decorating contest.
We then rolled our eggs down the hill. (another person working on the blog, Caspian) My egg was Bonnie from Five Nights at Freddy’s because I am incredibly unoriginal. (Skye again) My egg was a sunset over the ocean and it got messed up.

Then, we made hats in groups when we came up with a design together. Some people made their own one, but it had to be original.

Nathan made a go-cart out of that plastic stuff in the below picture.

May be entering most annoying sibling contest ->  Warthog.png

Tanith will too.

learning about microbes 8/3/22

We were learning about microbes yesterday. Fungus is the biggest kind. It can be microscopic to a toadstool’s size, and even bigger.

Viruses go inside your cells and make duplicates of themselves inside your body. They can range from a common cold to something deadly.

Bacteria is everywhere, even inside you. It helps you live. A small amount though, make you ill.

Here are some different types, and some info (according to the top trumps microbes cards)

Filovirus:

Max size (nm): 1500

Number of species: 1

Danger to humans: 200

Usefulness to humans: 0

Antibiotic resistance: n/a

-It is commonly known as Ebola. Luckily, there was a vaccine in 2019, after 25-90% of people died 🙁

Lactobacillus

Max size (nm) 1500

Number of species: 125

Danger to humans: 0

Usefulness to humans: 195

Antibiotic resistance: 10

It is very common and usually harmless to humans. It’s bacteria often used in the making of cheese and yoghurt.

Staphylococcus:

Max size (nm): 1000

Number of species: 19

Danger to humans: 174

Usefulness to humans: 20

Antibiotic resistance: 90

It has mutated to be resistant to antibiotics. It can cause severe infections.

Rhinovirus:

Max size (nm): 25

Number of species: 2

Danger to humans: 28

Usefulness to humans: 14

Antibiotic resistance: n/a

It is widely known as the common cold. Lots of people get is, especially kids.

Bye!!! 😀
