What I’ve been doing

Hi everybody

I’ve written out all my au sound words 3 times in colourful rainbow colours. I could read them first try 🙂

I listened to the true story of the three little pigs : ) I answered the questions.
1. The wolf isn’t happy because people dont know his version of the story.
2. People think wolves are big and bad because they eat furry cute animals.
3. The wolf was trying to make a birth day cake for his granny.
4.The wolf ran out of sugar.
5. He thinks the first pig isn’t so smart because he made his house out of straw
6.The wolf blew the houses down because his cold made him sneeze.
7.I think the third pig was rude to the wolf because he thought the wolf was there to blow his house down.
8.I believe the wolfs story because you could hear him sneeze and it sounded like he had a cold.

I also read other books on epic and I really like cat ninja. Iv’e also done the maths problems except for the very last one as I need to count how many staff members are in the school. I also did some sum dog.

bye for now team Holywood.

Scoot scoot!

Hi everyone.
Firstly I’ve discovered my favourite thing in maths is partitions. I’ve really been enjoying doing them! I even asked to do them again today. I’ve also been practising hard on my 3 and 4 times table. I didn’t think I was very good at the 3 and then I proved myself wrong when I got all my 3 times table questions right.

As part of my exercise for big Thursday we went to the skate park and I got to scoot on my new scooter. I decided to try one of the bigger ramps that I hadn’t tried before and I did it! So I asked my Dad to take a video.

We watched another episode of Perfect Planet and my mum wanted to know 3 facts we learned from the show.

Figs are pollinated by fig wasps that lay their eggs inside. When the baby wasps hatch inside the fig, the male wasps allow themselves to be eaten by ants to let the female wasps get away. The female wasps only live for 2 days.

Golden snub-nosed monkeys live in families and the familes fight with each other for food. Snub-nosed monkeys are one of my favourite animals because I love monkeys. I already knew that the leader of the family is the big male with the fur cape.

Arctic foxes steal eggs from geese to feed their cubs. Their cubs need 300 calories a day to grow.

Bye for now.

Work from yesterday and today

Hi everyone.
Yesterday I started with the Quick Readings. I did all of them. My mum is trying to get me to remember capital letters and full stops in sentences. She wanted me to write full sentences in my Quick Reading to help practice this.

I then did colouring half and quarters in shapes. Followed up by Epic Reading.

To finish off I looked back at my igloo drawings. I made notes about what is different from my house and what is the same.
The same.
1. I have underbed storage like the inuits do.
2. They still have a window and an entrance like our house.
3. They live with their family under one roof like me.

Different.
1. They don’t have as much space as my house.
2. There is no electric or lights.
3. They don’t have any internet.
4. I don’t think it will be as comfortable as there is no comfortable chairs or mattresses.
5. They won’t have as many things to do as I do.

Today my mum made me practice my sentence writing again to practice my capital letters and full stops. She made me write out animal facts I know and then I had to describe an animal or creature like I did with my Christmas presents.  Can you guess?
They have 4 legs and 2 raptors. They have a pair of antenna. They like eating flying insects. They come in many colours, but they are normally green or brown.

I then did the circle half sheet and will now move on to some Sumdog. Looking forward to the class meet up!
Bye for now
Rory.

Working today

Hi everyone.
Today I started with the maths problems. I liked that I was part of it and Cleo asked if we were famous!

1. There would be 24 praying mantis (and it would be complete chaos!).
2. Rhona, Oriana and Skye would have 102 books in total.
3. There would be 69 people in total meaning they would need 3 buses. This would cost the school £450.
4.  The P1s would eat 12 sausage rolls in total leaving 63. The P2s would eat 21 in total. This would leave 42.
5. Kohdie would need to cook 40 in total. This would take 4 packets.

I then followed up with Sumdog.
Then I watched some information videos on Inuits and their igloos. I also read the information provided on the sheet. I then drew a diagram of outside the igloo and then inside the igloo.

I then read another chapter of the Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher.

Finally here is my happy picture for today. A pile of my cuddly toys from last night, including my Mickey I described last week.

Bye for now
Rory

Today’s work.

Hey everyone
Cleo here.
I did some art using one of the myths that I wrote about the other day as inspiration. I also tried to relate to typography since that was the art for big Thursday. The word is making up the dragon’s horn.

I did my 5 a day. My mum was going to give me medium level, but I told her that was too easy and it should be spicy. I got a bit muddled with my long multiplication, but after sitting down with my Mum and going over it a couple of times we worked out exactly where I was going wrong. It was a simple mistake, but it messed my whole sum up!
I did Sumdog, followed up by some Epic.
This is my picture for the photography challenge. I bet I will post a lot of mantis! A big question about my last mantis was why do the females have wings if they don’t fly. Mantis do threat displays using their wings – their wings sometimes have swirly shapes on that look like eyes. This makes them look bigger than they are and predators are confused by the eyes. I have a couple of species like that so I’ll try to show them soon.

This is Autumn. She is a Deroplatys Truncata (Deadleaf Mantis). She’s not easy to take pictures of. Her species look like dead leaves so they can hide in amongst dead leaves and catch prey. Natural prey to praying mantis are flying insects. Autumn isn’t an adult yet

I’ve also found a picture to show an adult female dead leaf mantis doing a threat display so you can see how they use their wings for that. You can see this species has black dots on their arms to look like eyes.

Now it’s time to finish the day by learning about meditation.
Bye for now!
Cleo

My work

Hi everyone
Here is my picture for the photography challenge. I actually took it yesterday when we had to drop some supplies off to my G.G. We went a walk there and my Mum told me to take some pictures of things I found interesting. She must’ve known this was coming! I thought this red tree was interesting as it’s very colourful for winter time.

I’ve been looking at shapes and colouring in half. I also then did some Sumdog for more maths.

For literacy I had a go at the quick reading about planet Zog.
My answers to the questions were
1. Zog is made of chocolate and lumpy cream cheese.
2. The author used the word strange.
3. It will take 400 million light years to get to Zog.
4. I would like to visit Zog. The Zargles sound cute and I would like to meet them.
I also then did some more reading on Epic.
I’m now going to watch the second episode about mediation. The first episode told us where meditation came from and why it can be helpful. Then at the end it showed us how to do a simple meditation. This episode is going to teach us how to deal with frustration.

Have a good day.
Rory.

Polar bears and other things.

Hi everyone.
Miss Dale wanted to know why Proboscis Monkeys are one of my favourite animals. I really love all monkeys, but the reason  I like them the best is because of the honking sound they can make with their funny nose.
Today I started with my 3 and 4 times tables. My Mum wrote out the tables in random order for me to fill in and answer. It was tricky at first then I got into the swing of it once my memory kicked in.
I then went on to do some Sum Dog. Then onto Epic reading – there is a book on there called Okay Andy and it always makes me laugh because it says bears say “snork!”
After lunch I did the quick reading about female pirates. I found it interesting because I like pirates and I managed to get all the questions on it right.
I then watched a video about Polar Bears. I then drew a picture, which I made into a poster with facts about Polar Bears.

Just finishing the day with a bit of quiet reading from the book by Tom Fletcher called The Christmasaurus. I got it last year for Christmas, but haven’t read it yet.

Bye for now
Rory.

Some of my work from today

Hi!

Today we watched an episode of Perfect Planet that was all about volcanoes and the animals that live around them.
3 facts I learned from the show are :

Flamingos eat a volcanic algae that makes them and their eyes pink.
Land iguanas on a Galapagos Island have to climb down a steep volcano crater to lay their eggs in the warm volcano ash.
There is a Galapagos Island called Wolf. It is the most remote Galapagos Island and little finches live on it. They are known as vampire finches because the only way they can survive there is to drink the blood of other bigger birds.

I also did some work on Sumdog. I then got my book that I received for Christmas called Encyclopedia of Ugly Animals. I chose an animal in it to read about. I then wrote out some information I learned about that animal and drew  a picture of that animal.

The animal I chose is actually one of my favourite animals – it’s called a proboscis monkey.
Proboscis monkeys are very good swimmers, using their webbed hands and feet to assist them when travelling from mangrove to mangrove.
The collective noun for a group of proboscis monkeys is a harem.
Their favourite food is found in the crab apple mangrove. They eat the leaves and the sour star shaped fruits.
Males use their nose to call and attract females. They also use this in a fight to scare the challenger.
Sadly the number of these interesting monkeys left in the wild has declined by more than 50% in the last 40 years.

Thank you for reading.
Rory.

Rory’s first day of home school

Hi everyone!

Hope you are all safe and well. I’ve been doing some literacy, some Epic reading, some Sumdog, some walking and then we watched a programme about meditation and mindfulness. At the end we did our own meditation.

I wrote these sentences describing some Christmas presents.

It’s a hard case that is blue and rectangular. It has a picture of a boy with a costume on. The costume is black and red and the boy is swinging from a web. Inside is the item you need to use. It is shiny and round.

It has handle bars that are black and green. It has two green wheels with black in the middle. It has a rectangular board that I stand on and it’s decorated with a skull.

He has a pumpkin body that’s orange. He’s dressed for Halloween. He feels very soft and has 2 big, black ears. He has 2 arms and wears white gloves with 3 black lines on them. He usually says “hey pal. It’s….” but my one doesn’t talk.

I hope you’ve all had a good day.
Rory.
