My work

Hey everyone – Cleo checking in with some of my work.

This is my Van Gogh inspired painting from the end of last week using the airbrush programme

I’ve nearly finished House with the Chicken Legs. Mummy has set me the challenge of finishing before the end of the week so I can do a review. I have been doing work from my spelling list and also did the dictionary words – here are my sentences for those.

Indiana Jones is an intrepid adventurer that travels all over the world looking for historical artifacts.
Captain Marvel is courageous because she fights for people to protect them.
Climbing Mount Everest is arduous journey because the conditions are harsh.
School work can be a gruelling task.
Going for a walk in the Amazon Rainforest can be an adventurous escapade.
I love clothes and jewellery that are unique.
The house was in the jeopardy because it was so old and at risk of falling down.

For maths I’ve been sticking with my 5-a-day and doing a mix of medium and spicy. I’ve also been doing Sumdog and I’m going to try hard to help us do well in the challenge this week.

This week we’ve also taken a look at plants. We went into the garden and looked at flowering and non-flowering plants. We then discussed the differences. Then we looked at parts of a plant and I came in and drew a diagram through paint. Here it is.

I’ve also been very interested in myths and legends recently, especially legendary or mythical creatures. I’ve been watching some documentaries on them. Today’s has been about the Lochness monster.
Anyway time to go for just now.
Hope everyone is safe.
Cleo.

Update on what I’ve been doing.

Hi everyone. Cleo here.

Manga Drawings

I thought I would post my manga drawings from last week. I drew them using paint as I like to use a computer to draw. Here is a picture of me and a picture of a character from Pokemon called Diglet.

Adapted Characteristics

We have been looking at adapted characteristics and discussed what we would need as humans for each of the pictures shown on the activity sheet. We then drew them along side an animal and plant from the area. We also watched two episodes of Planet Earth that focused on the desert and then the snowy areas. For the desert Planet Earth taught me that in the Gobi desert as well as having extremely hot weather the Winters can be harsh too, sometimes getting as cold as -40c. For the drawing we focused on a desert that is hot.

Tricky words

I looked up the tricky words in the dictionary. Here are my sentences.
A Spiny Flower mantis nymph is  miniscule compared to other mantis.
I think it is important for rules to be transparent so it is clear for everyone to follow them.
That person said an infantile joke that upset some of the listeners.
The Oogie Boogie man is a loathsome character in The Nightmare Before Christmas because he’s mean to Jack Skeleton.
At Christmas time you can see everybody bustling in the shops.
A ball is spherical which makes it easier to kick around.

I’m now of to do some more Sumdog. Hope you have had a good day.

What I’ve Been Up To

Hi everyone
This is my written piece about the differences between home school and being at a school.

Home school and being at school are quite different.  For example at home you don’t have a massive gym hall but you do at school.

At home when I’m doing school I’m surrounded by my pets and I like it because it keeps me calm and relaxed.

When I am doing home school I only have two people in my class and the people are me and Rory. It is not the completely fun having your brother in your class but that’s probably me getting used to it. Not only do we have a small class we also have a smaller playground. It’s ok having a smaller playground because we still have a trampoline. The classroom also looks very different because there’s two TV’s and a sofa.

I’m going to be talking about being at school now. At school I was able to see my friends much more and the teachers and I miss my friends and the teachers. We also have actual school chairs and tables at school which is a lot better to lean on. All of us also have to wear school clothes but for home school we don’t.  At school we also have a lot of computers but we don’t at home.

Here are some parts of school that are similar. We have similar school supplies like pencils, pens, rubbers and colouring pencils. We also do similar maths like school.

I wish I was back at school because I miss my friends.

Other work

I’ve been keeping up my 5 a day maths problems – I’ve been doing a mix of medium and spicy. There was one spicy one that even had mummy a bit bamboozled for a while. I’ve also been doing Sumdog. For literacy I’ve been practising my spelling and I also did the venn diagram to help me plan for the piece above. I’ve also been doing my half an hour a day of House with the chicken legs. Yesterday we also covered inherited characteristics. We did the monster task and this is my monster family babies.

That’s all for now. I hope everyone is well.
Bye for now. Cleo

Life cycle of a praying mantis

Hi everyone, Cleo here! Today after maths and literacy we looked at life cycles. Here is one I did of the praying mantis, followed by a description of their life cycle

A female mantis lays groups of 14-100 babies in a froth that hardens to protect the egg through the Winter. This is known as an ootheca.

Baby mantids , called nymphs, hatch in the spring. Often their first meal is one of their siblings! Nymphs eat leafhoppers, aphids or small flies.

All through Summer  they shed their skin many times to reveal a new larger skin underneath. This is called moulting.

They have one final moult and this is when they officially become an adult. Almost all species of mantis also reveal a set of wings at this final moult. Females will go on to lay eggs of their own. Their life span is only approximately 1 year, so soon after egg laying they usually die. The life cycle will begin again with the new eggs.

Here is some bonus pictures of Matilda! (Who is actually a boy)

My book on vertebrates

Hello everyone! Cleo here.

Today I did a book about vertebrates. It took me most of the day but I got there. This was to follow on from my food chain I did earlier. We also watched some videos to tell us facts about vertebrates and invertebrates.

Through out the week I have done some maths in French.
Miss . Stapleton – I tried some of the spicy five a day. I only needed a little help on the bigger multiplication but now I understand how to do it.

I’m still reading The House With The Chicken Legs. Mummy is trying to encourage me to get it finished.

I am going to check our bug hotel shortly to see who’s decided to live there and we will report back. Bye for now! Cleo

What I’ve been up to

Hey everyone, Cleo here! Today I will be talking about what i have been up to in home school.

We have been learning about food chains. We watched a few videos explaining food chains. We matched the words to their meanings and then drew a food chain. I have shown the chain from algae to orca whale.

We made a bug hotel at the front of our house. We used sticks, bark, moss, pine cones, bricks for the base and leaves. Here are some pictures of our step by step process.

I’ve been doing more five a day for maths and a bit of Sumdog.

Today I did some 15 minute quick writing. Here it is…
If there was a place I could go tomorrow it would probably be M&D’s. The reason I would want to go is because it is a fun theme park. My favourite  ride is the train roller coaster because is isn’t to fast and it isn’t to slow. I do also like the log flume. There is an animal place there to with parrots, snakes, a toucan and much more. There are 40 rides at M&D’s. Not only is there rides and animals there’s also an arcade. The arcade is quite big. I have a lot of good memories  from M&D’s. One of them were me and Mummy were on the Condor and when we were high up I would look down and she would scream! The Condor was a ride with eagle seats and it would spin around while going up. It would go really high.

I also had to find the list of tricky words in a dictionary. My Mummy’s favourite sentence was “I am difficult to rouse in the morning.” because it is true.

Scavenger Hunt, Living things and French

Hi there!
Cleo checking in here to show some of this weeks work.
I’ve been trying hard at the Sumdog competition and I’ve been doing my 5-a-day maths problems. I managed to get those all right. I didn’t try the spicy ones yet though so maybe I will try those next. I’m also still reading House with the Chicken Legs. I’ll do a review as soon as I’m done.

This morning we started out with a scavenger hunt. Here’s a picture of the list we followed incase you want to try too.

We’ve done a bit on living things and non-living things. Here is my poster I made after watching some videos on the topic. We also did the alien task.

I also drew a house for French to practice my room names.

We collected lots of stuff for a bug hotel yesterday.  We are going to finish that today. That’s all for now. Going to do my half an hour of reading now.
Have a great day everyone.

Quick Writing! Jumpy Matilda!

One day I was upstairs in my room with Mummy getting the mantises out all joyful until it changed. Mummy was getting Matilda out and I was getting Zino out. When Matilda saw Mummy’s glasses… well she tried jumping on them. She would put her raptors up and move side to side before jumping. When she jumped I got really scared and i’m still scared of her but i do love her. She still tries to jump on Mummy’s glasses but she doesn’t jump at me a lot because I don’t have glasses. It’s because she sees herself in her glasses and thinks it’s another mantis because mantises still fight each other.

Some Lego, a spider and a cheesecake recipe!

Hi everyone!
Cleo here. Here is a picture of my completed Lego set that I received for my birthday

Here is a picture of my jumping spider 🙂

Lastly here is the recipe for my Dad’s really good cheesecake. He uses gluten free digestives as my Mum is gluten intolerant, but you can just use normal digestives.

Get a cake tin.

For the base: Melt butter and mix in crushed up digestive biscuits

Add a layer of either melted chocolate or for quickness chocolate spread.

If you use melted chocolate mix in some butter so it doesn’t go too hard

Let base set in the fridge

Top Layer:

2 cartons of cream cheese

1 small double cream

4 heaped table spoons of icing sugar

Mix altogether with a hand mixer until VERY thick

Add topping to base

Garnish with whatever you want

Suggestions:

-Chocolate chips

-Strawberries

-Sprinkles

-Kiwi

My Birthday!

Hi guys! It’s Cleo. I am sorry I have posted in a while but here i am.

Today i will be talking about my birthday. It was my birthday on Thursday in the holidays which was really exciting. The presents I got for my birthday were £75 in total from family members, £70 to spend on clothes I can look up online, I got a massive Lego set that’s basically a rescue yacht. I also got a painting set where there’s a flower and butterfly and it comes with three colours that are purple, a neon pink and a dark blue. I’ve already started the back and front on the butterfly.

I did get an early present to. There’s now a new member to the family and so far i’m calling it spidey because we don’t know the gender until it gets older. The new family member is… A jumping spider! I have begged and begged for one of these and finally i got one. If it’s a boy it’ll be called zebreano and if its a girl I will call it pumpkin-spidey-latte because they are my favourite drink for Halloween {its proper name is pumpkin-spice-latte or frappicuno).I have them with no coffee in it.People use spiders for Halloween so I thought it would be a nice name.

Now the cake i had for my birthday is a cheesecake that my Daddy is really good at making. I’m sure its gone by now because it’s such a good cake. It’s the best cheesecake ever! Not only did we have cheesecake me and Daddy also made cupcakes! I got to decorate them so I decorated them with these little heart sprinkles and put them in the middle standing up then I put star sprinkles on 7 and then normal colourful sprinkles on the other 7! I got a take away for my dinner and we got to choose what we wanted! Well that’s all for today. I hope you are all okay and having fun!
