My busy Wednesday!

Hello everyone! Its Cleo. Today I’ve been quite a busy bee and I’m going to share it all with you.

I started the day off with writing sentences for the words that I matched up with the meanings yesterday.

The nobleman next door became a conspirator in the plot.

The old man down the road was known as a tyrant because he shouted at children.

King Author decided to banish a knight from the round table.

My cat Zorro felt triumphant after winning a fight against another cat.

I am lucky to have the liberty of freedom in life.

At the concert, a man tried to jostle through the crowd to get to the front.

Macbeth was a ruthless man because he killed king Duncan to become king faster.

The soldier was an honourable man and received medals.

The Mother lion avenged her cubs by killing the hyena.

The pirate uncovered all the loot in the treasure chest.

The song I have chosen for to represent Brutus from Julius Caeser is Backstabber. I chose the song because it is about a girl who betrayed her friend and it is a bit similar to what Brutus did to Julius Caeser.

An example lyric:

“Girl, you’re such a backstabber! (Stabber, you’re such a backstabber)”

This is a line from the song. I feel it’s very relevant because Brutus backstabbed Caeser when he was supposed to be his friend. He betrayed him and helped to kill him, which is actually quite a big betrayal!

Afterwards I listened to an audiobook on Epic. The book is called Swipe. I listened to it for half an hour. Quite an interesting book. I watched two videos about what clothes they used to wear in Arctic and what they wear now a days to Arctic and a video about what animals you find there. To end the day off I did some Five-a-day and chose spicy but found it quite easy!

I hope you all had a great day and remember to wash your hands!

From Cleo

What I’ve been up to these two days.

Hello everyone! Cleo here. I hope you are all having a brilliant time off. Today I will be talking about what I’ve been up to. Yesterday I did pronouns. This is what I wrote.

I heard a noise in the dining room at lunchtime. I went to the dining room and Mr Wilson was groaning. He had fallen off the chair. He could not get back on to the chair. My colleague Jean and I helped him back into the chair. She looked to see if he was hurt. She found that he had bruised his leg. She put a cold compress on the bruise. The bruise was not too bad. The other residents carried on eating. They all seemed fine.

Today I matched words to their meanings. I struggled a bit at first but got the hang of it and tomorrow I will be doing sentences for each word. Yesterday I worked on Sumdog and I will be doing Five-a-day today. I read Julius Ceaser and I decided I was going to pick a song for one of the characters. I have the perfect song but I will be doing that tomorrow.

I also have an idea for school. Could we maybe make a kind of calm area for at break times because I’m sure there might be some kids hiding their feelings like I did. It could be an area to help with stress or anxiety. You could maybe read a book or listen to something calm, relax and breathe in and out.

Hope you all are doing brilliant and remember to stay safe and wash your hands!

What I’ve been doing.

Hi everyone.
I got my Sumdog challenge finished and I feel like I’m getting a good handle on the algebra. As part of my big Thursday I went roller blading for exercise. My mum is going to email a video to the school for the teachers to see as I decided I didn’t really want to post it up on the blog. I got the roller blades for Christmas and I’m slowly getting more confident in them 🙂
We watched the second episode of Perfect Planet and Mum asked us to write down our 3 facts that we learned at the end.
Wolves hunt musk ox by trying to single one out from the herd. If they aren’t successful they will move on the arctic hares, which aren’t very easy to catch either.
Silver desert ants have 5 minutes to find food before the heat kills them. They run from their underground burrow and race to find something that has already died from the heat to take back to their home.
Shearwater birds make one of the biggest migrations in the world travelling from New Zealand to Alaska. They fatten themselves up before flying as once they set off they don’t see dry land for a very long time.

I also took a look at inuits and their igloos and modern housing. I drew a diagram of each. I read all the links provided. I found it shocking the lack of daylight at certain times of the year. I also wanted to understand the igloo better as I was confused how it would be warm when it was made of hard snow. I found a good video on YouTube that fully explained it. Here it is incase you would like to learn about it too 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L7EI0vKVuU&list=LLn2MbM0abmGb7ZyNptyndtw&index=653

Hope everyone is safe and well.

Some more work from today.

Hi again
This morning I started with my dictionary words. This is my sentences.

Guy Fawkes committed treason with his gunpowder plot.
My prophecy for 2021 is that I will get more confident rollerblading.
I asked Rory not to break my build on Minecraft, but he did anyway. This betrayal haunts me until this day.
The man was arrested for conspiracy to commit murder.
My friend told me the shop was gifting free sweets, but I realised this was deceit.
People believed there was a high level of corruption in the local government.
My cat ,Diego, likes to pin my cat ,Zorro, down to show dominance.

I also spent a lot of time on algebra today with my Dad so I was able to do quite a bit towards the Sumdog challenge. I might need to do a bit more practise on algebra but I understand the terms variable, constant and coefficient and I’m a bit better at simplifying.

Things I’ve been up to today

Hello!
Today I started with my 5 a day. Need to practice my long division and so does my Mum. I also then went on to do my Sumdog challenge, but it was using words I’d never heard before. My mum then came and read it and decided she will research tonight and we will have a bash again tomorrow once she knows how to explain it.  I then read the graphic novel of MacBeth on Epic to prepare for my task tomorrow. I’m going to write the text discussion.
I’ve then spent a lot of time researching Polar Bears in Myth and Folklore. I decided to write out some of the information I discovered.

Polar Bear Folklore and Myths
Polar bears feature a lot in Inuit myth and folklore.
Many tales and legends tell of the great, white bear, who wanders the Arctic realm.
In many legends the polar bear is seen as a kind of skin walker or shapeshifter that changes from a bear into a man at certain times of the day or when they enter their winter dens. Some reference this as a curse and the bear has to convince a girl to live with them for a year to break the curse. Others see this as a blessing. It is believed this came from the way polar bears would often walk on their back legs in a human like manner.

In Inuit religion there was tales of a polar bear called Nanook. It was believed Nanook was who decided whether their hunting trips for bears would be successful or not. When the Inuits killed a polar bear they treated the polar bear skins as a sacred object, placing them in a special part of their igloo. They offered the skins tools and objects as they believed the bear had wanted to be killed to gain these objects to take into the afterlife. They believed that if they treated the skin well the bear would tell other polar bears this person was a great hunter and person, so they should allow themselves to be killed by them.

According to Inuit tradition it was the Polar bear that taught humans how to hunt seals. The Polar bears are greatly respected for the symbol of strength and courage. Inuit shamans would often call on the spirit of the polar bear.

Lastly this is my picture a day…although it is a video. Lettuce decided she was a bit grumpy. Female mantis can be a bit dramatic sometimes. I took the video to show my mum, but it shows how beautiful all her colours are so I thought I’d share it here 🙂
Bye for now

Today!

Hello everyone
Today I started out with the algebra powerpoint in the home learning. I actually got the hang of it pretty quickly and really enjoyed doing it.
I then did some Sumdog followed by some Epic. I started a book called The Revenge of The Shadow King.
After lunch I read some of my book about mythical beasts that I received for Christmas.

I then chose a couple of beasts to focus on and do extra research. I then wrote out some facts about them.

Bunyip

In Australia in deep waterholes lies Bunyips. Bunyips are evil mythical spirits that lure people or animals and devours any person or creature. People started making these legends when they heard blood-curdling cries.

Banished Spirit…

Australian people include this creature in their dreams. According to one of the myths, there was a tribesman who disobeyed the rules about how living things should live, which the rainbow snakes decided. Biami, the good spirit, punished him. He was banished from the tribe. Biami also told other tribes to stay away from him. The tribesman got so angry he became an evil spirit and they called him Bunyip. He would roam the earth at night bringing gloom and fear to all tribes. He would also devour people on the way especially women and children.

… Or a Prehistoric Hippo?

40,000 years ago there was a plant-eating marsupial around the size of a rhino living in Australia. It was known as a Diprotodon. It would live near water and graze on shrubs and grass. People have been wondering if these creatures evolved into hippo-like marsupial which the tribespeople saw and feared.

They have a dog-like face, walrus-like tusks or horns and dark fur.

Dragons

At least every continent has its own tale of scaly, serpent-like creatures.

Ryu

The Ryu is a Japanese dragon. It has three claws but no wings. It lives beneath the sea and controls rain and stormy weather. It gifts wishes to those brave enough to find one.

Kuh Billaur

The Kuh Billaur dragon came from Persia. Brave Ali killed a serpent dragon by piercing it with his sword. People feared dragons throughout the Middle East. In ancient times, apparently, a dragon swallowed the moon when a lunar eclipse occurred. People made loud noises with bells so the creature could release the moon.

Fafnir

This dragon lives in Norse/Germany. Fafnir was the son of dwarf king Hreidmar. He tried stealing his father’s treasure, so he was killed by Sigurd. In northern European myths, dragons were a symbol of greed.

Lastly  I thought I’d share some mantis pictures since Miss Dale mentioned them yesterday. Today’s mantis I’m sharing is called Lettuce. She is a Rhombodera Stalli (Shield Mantis). Mantis keepers prefer you to use the scientific name as lots of mantis share the same general name. Lettuce is a fully grown adult female, so she has her wings. However females don’t really fly at all. Females also have a longer lifespan.

Hope everyone has had a good day 🙂
Bye for now!

What learning I did today

Hi everyone! It’s Cleo. Today I read the short version of Romeo and Juliet and found it quite dramatic. Not sure if romantic stories are my cup of tea.

Dear Diary,

I met this very intriguing man named Romeo. His eyes shined brightly whenever I looked closely at them. I like him very much and I cannot remove him from my mind. At the party it was bustling with people, and it was amid the crowd he spotted me. He approached me immediately and was very quick to pronounce his love for me. From whispers in the crowd I was worried something wasn’t right. It wasn’t until I confided in my nurse that I found out his second name was Montague. My father would never agree to this as he despises the Montagues. I am also concerned what my cousin ,Tybalt, will think because he is angered very easily. He has a fiery temper.

However even with all this I can not forget his bright eyes and sweet words. Could it be that our love is meant to be? Is it worth the fury of my family? I don’t understand this ridiculous feud and I don’t think it’s important enough to stand in the way of love. In fact, forget them! I deserve to be happy. Perhaps there is a way…

I will go to my balcony to bathe in the moonlight and think upon it.
Goodnight.

I also watched Perfect Planet and I watched the volcano episode. Here’s three facts I found out.
Mauna Loa is the world’s biggest volcano. It is located in Hawaii.

There’s a lake in Kenya that flamingos go to that is made of salt. The flamingos nests are also made of salt. The flamingos drink the algae there and it turns them pink and it even dyes their eye a pinkish red colour.

Vampire finches are relatively new animals. They were evolved to eat blood as there was no other resource for them to eat. They live on an island called Wolf. The bigger birds let them eat their blood and scientists aren’t sure why. They think that they maybe started out by removing parasites for the bigger birds and the bigger birds assume that’s what they’re doing.

Hope you are all doing well! Remember to stay safe but still have fun! By Cleo

Making sentences

Hello everyone! It’s Cleo here. I made sentences with words I had to find in the dictionary. These are the sentences I made.

I had a quarrel with my brother about who’s sitting in the front seat.
In the wild west, Jordan won the duels against outlaws.
I decided I wanted to go to Spain so I stayed in a hotel where the staff were hospitable.
Before I went to bed I heard a noise so I decided to check it out. As soon as I stepped onto the wet dewy grass I head a growl and decided to run back inside.
I gave consent to Rory to use my PC but I kept a close eye on him.
I get very vexed when Rory talks over me and interrupts my conversation.
We had to buy a new draught excluder for our front door because our last one broke.
I repented to my Mum for not tidying my room.

I hope you are all doing well. Stay safe and have fun.

Big Thursday!!!

Hi everyone! It’s Cleo. Today I will be talking about Big Thursday and what we have been learning about on Big Thursday. The first subject we learn in the morning is science. In  science we are learning electronics. So far we have learnt the symbols for light bulbs, wires and other things. We have to make different circuits. A very common circuit people do is wire to a battery and another wire to a battery then attach that to a light bulb. When we go out for break and come back in  we have computer science. In computer science we have these lego boxes called Lego We Do. We have to have an app for the lego. On the app it shows you how to build the set you wanna build and when you build it you get to program it on the app. My favourite one was probably Milo. When we finish computer science we move onto art. Art is one of my favourite classes. We’ve learnt many different techniques. My favourite animal we had to draw was probably the Koi fish. After art we move onto P.E. which is our last class of the day. On the first week it was pretty rainy so we had to create some games and make a circuit. The next 2 weeks we did a circuit which included army crawling, running through the willow den and many other fun activities. The other weeks we played some games. That’s all for today.  Hope you all have a lovely day!
