We have been learning about Antoni Gaudi. He was a Spanish architect who designed buildings in Barcelona. We think some of his buildings look like castles or gingerbread houses!! He liked to go hiking to get ideas for his buildings from nature. There is a building in Barcelona Gaudi still hasn’t finished because he died before it was done. It is called La Sagrada Familia. He is a very famous person in Spain. He likes to use mosaics on a lot of his buildings. He smashes up tiles and then puts them back together again. We are going to try that this week – look out for some pictures on the blog!
Rounders Rocks!
We had PE with Miss Stapleton today and we decided we would go to play rounders outside because it was a lovely day.
To play rounders you need to split into 2 teams. One team had to throw the ball, to the other team that was batting. The person batting then had to run to the next hoop before the bowling team got there. Today one team got 15 points and the other team got 5. Next week we will practise our bowling and batting! Rounders is awesome! From P1,2, and 3 (and Miss Stapleton).
Castles Sieges!
At Hollywood this week we have been continuing learning all about castles. P3 and 4 made a humongous castle in the classroom for the role play corner. P1 and 2 made castle pictures using paper, and our cutting and tearing skills, with Mr. Parkhouse. We have also started building some castles outside – with sandstone!! They are going to be big enough for people to fit in. We have been working in 3 groups – hopefully enemy castles won’t attack us. We now know lots of facts about castles. Zak has learned that there were 2 different types of motte and bailey. Ethan learned that they had to build castles by hand. Logan knows they didn’t have any flushing toilets! Hayden learned that the servants in the castle didn’t even get baths – they had to go in the river!
We are excited about making shields and swords next week, and maybe finishing our castles. We are also going to visit a real life castle.
Dinosaurs Rule!!
P1-4 have been learning about dinosaurs. We made a play about how dinosaurs became extinct. We made paper mache dinosaurs. We made habitats for different dinosaurs in trays using sand and dirt and twigs and stones from outside. We found facts about different dinosaurs and we even wrote stories about them. Some dinosaurs were carnivores and some were herbivores. Kye’s favourite carnivore was the spinsosaurus. Hayden’s favourite herbivore was the ankyosaurus. Ryan liked the brachiosaurus. We really enjoyed learning about dinosaurs, thanks Kye for suggesting the topic!
