TOM HUGHES – Holywood Storyteller

Tom Hughes is a storyteller living in Holywood.

He’s very interested in sharing traditional folk tales.  You might have heard him tell stories at the school’s gala day, on a community history walk around the area, or at the village hall which he helps to run.  Here he’s telling a favourite tale, the story of foolish Mr Vinegar.

And here he is telling the tale of The Russet Dog

Noah worked hard to solve the teacup challenge.

Do you agree with his solution?

He also said it was fun!!  What?!?!  Learning fun…

Thanks Noah,

Miss Dale

New Pupil – James!

Hi there,

I’ve been having a big natter with James who joined P3 last week.

It turns out that he likes Salt and Vinegar nuts!! Not a favourite of mine!!

He also likes playing zombie/ jumping games on his X-Box.

He needs to wear a helmet when he is out riding his bike especially if he is performing wheelies!!

I’ve noticed already that James likes making up big stories – this is exciting and I can’t wait to read the stories that he writes in class!  Can one of your stories be about a giraffe that lives at home with a head teacher please?!

James loves kebab meat and wants us to try it too!  Not sure about that one.

We both love roast chicken!

At school James likes break times, choose times and home time!!

We hope he also likes getting muddy now that he has joined Team Holywood!

Rube Goldberg – Amazing Inventions

I have tasked P6/7 to use their forces knowledge and skills to design and build a pointless contraption with a point.

Rube Goldberg was famous for his cartoons and contraptions which used elaborate components and ridiculous elements to make a simple thing happen.

With the push of just one finger the machine would be started…

I have asked the pupils to design a machine to move a pencil along, into a sharpener and then get it sharpened.

Of course, being Holywood some pupils have decided to invent Goal Scoring machines, the Thirst Quenching machine and other creations of their own.

Some designs include electric circuits and fans, dominoes and moving cars or marbles, one even has  boat moved by a tidal wave…

We will share photos when the working models are completed.

Hallowe’en Thank you!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make the day a big success…

Parents and family members for fabulous costumes and lots of great face painting.

Staff team for their costumes and great activities.

Pupils for their good humour and sense of fun.

We all had a great day!!

Thank you so much !

Miss Dale
