Red Nose day is a fun day at Holywood school, we have so many

things to do like : funny joke off but if no one laughs

you get a cream pie in the face. This year we are doing a balloon farting competition to see whocan get the loudest fart.

Everyone has dressed up. You can see us in the fab picture below.

Pupil Council Healthy Fruit Tasting

The pupil council held their first event last Friday – a healthy tasting session. Pupils were challenged to taste different fruits to see which they liked or disliked. We were delighted to note how enthusiastic our pupils were to try new things. The session went very well and the results will be used to inform about different choices for free fruit and for future health events.

School Show Great Success

Pupils at Holywood School performed Scrooge at School or Mr Humbug Sees the Light to a packed hall last Tuesday (11th December).

In just three weeks all pupils learned the song words, their script lines and designed and made their costumes.

Katie Jackson (P7) took the lead role as the grumpy Mr Humbug a head  teacher who bans Christmas at his school. It is a reworking of the classic Dicken’s tale a Christmas Carol where the three ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future drop in to make Mr Humbug change his ways. Jennifer Clark was delighted to take on the role of the ghost of Christmas Present as she wanted to play a headless ghost – she used Mod-Roc to make her head before painting it.

Every pupil in school had a role to play in the production with primary one pupils playing mini-ghosts, cooks and school children from the past and future.

Head of Lighting, Axel Marshall(P6) and Stage Director, Ryan Templeton (P7) ensured that music, sound effects and lighting were used to full effect to create a spooky atmosphere for the performance night.

An audience of over 100 members of the school and wider community came along for the show and gave pupils very positive feedback. Emma, Callie, Rachael and Rebecca last years P7 pupils (now at secondary school) came along to support Team Holywood and told staff and pupils ‘It was the best show ever. We wanted to get up and sing with the pupils. The costumes looked amazing!’

Miss Dale the Head teacher said, “All of our pupils worked very hard to remember their lines and performed brilliantly on the night– a huge thank you to parents for working so hard at home and to school staff for making, sewing, ironing and pulling the show together!”

Holywood gets a New Park – Holywood School gets an Old Park

Miss Baxter and P1-4 were out visiting the woodland on Wednesday and bumped into a lady who is in charge of the new Holywood Park.

She told Miss Baxter about the change of equipment in the park . The New park will have a trim trail – like an obstacle course. Katie is hoping for monkey bars!!

Miss Baxter asked if the school could have the old equipment and the lady said YES!!!

We hope to use the wood as part of our tree house. There is a lot of wood and equipment which means that we could build a very very large treehouse.

We will need some HANDY HELPERS in the new year – we hope you can help us out!

Geoff Forrest – willow den maintenance – helpers needed

Geoff Forrest will be coming to Holywood on the 13th December to help us to cut back the willow den. Last year the upper class made a brilliant job of getting the den back in shape. Mrs Queen and Mrs Moore dived in and helped out too!

If you are available for a couple of hours on the 13th Geoff will be with us around 10am. A warming tea or coffee will be available before, during and after. Gardening gloves and seccateurs would be useful tools to bring if you have them.

Reminder – no cycling on the Grass and Hills

Miss Dale would like to remind all pupils that cycling in the playground is not allowed. After working so long and hard to get the playground we wanted it would be a blow to lose it because our pupils cycle over it with their bikes.

It is unfair for a small number of pupils to be continuing to cause damage to the grass and hills when they have been repeatedly asked not to do it!

Meet Holywood Pupil Council

Meet our new Pupil Council. They are busy organising their first two events. The I Bike Crew are launching a Get it Bright campaign to make sure that pupils are riding safely.

The other councillors are organising a Get Healthy Fruit and Vegetable tasting session. More Information to follow.
