Hi everyone.
I got my Sumdog challenge finished and I feel like I’m getting a good handle on the algebra. As part of my big Thursday I went roller blading for exercise. My mum is going to email a video to the school for the teachers to see as I decided I didn’t really want to post it up on the blog. I got the roller blades for Christmas and I’m slowly getting more confident in them 🙂
We watched the second episode of Perfect Planet and Mum asked us to write down our 3 facts that we learned at the end.
Wolves hunt musk ox by trying to single one out from the herd. If they aren’t successful they will move on the arctic hares, which aren’t very easy to catch either.
Silver desert ants have 5 minutes to find food before the heat kills them. They run from their underground burrow and race to find something that has already died from the heat to take back to their home.
Shearwater birds make one of the biggest migrations in the world travelling from New Zealand to Alaska. They fatten themselves up before flying as once they set off they don’t see dry land for a very long time.
I also took a look at inuits and their igloos and modern housing. I drew a diagram of each. I read all the links provided. I found it shocking the lack of daylight at certain times of the year. I also wanted to understand the igloo better as I was confused how it would be warm when it was made of hard snow. I found a good video on YouTube that fully explained it. Here it is incase you would like to learn about it too 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L7EI0vKVuU&list=LLn2MbM0abmGb7ZyNptyndtw&index=653
Hope everyone is safe and well.

Roller blading is great fun but tricky to get the hang of to begin with – well done for trying! I also watched that episode of Perfect Planet. I was surprised how difficult it was for the wolves to catch the Arctic hares. I’m really enjoying the series – looking forward to the next episode!
Hi Cleo,
That’s a really helpful link – thank you for sharing, I think everyone will like it.
Great facts from Perfect planet – I thought the ants looked like little metallic robots!
I’m looking forward to seeing your rollerblading video.
Great facts!
I’ve never tried rollerblading but I used to love roller skating! Although that was a long time ago!
Looking forward to seeing your video.
Sounds great Cleo- looking forward to seeing the video of you rollerblading. I used to love rollerblading when I was your age. Some really interesting facts from Perfect Planet- well done!
Hi Cleo, just seen your video – thanks for sending it. Wow! Fast and steady! I wasn’t expecting you to be that good if you only got your blades at Christmas. I did try roller skates once and I could do straight lines but not corners and not braking, so you are waaaaay ahead of me!
I’m delighted your confidence is growing in algebra Cleo. I am with Mrs Armstrong – you have already far surpassed me in rollerblading skills, I couldn’t stop, steer, or really stay up for long! You are doing really well.
