2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami

In 2004 off the coast of Indonesia there was a massive tsunami. It’s nickname is the 2004 boxing day tsunami. The tsunami was triggered  by a giant under water earthquake of the west coast of northern Sumatra. The earthquake was a magnitude of 9.1. It is one of the most powerful recorded in Asia and the second or third biggest globally. The tsunami hit India, Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka. 227,899 people were lost or killed making it one of the deadliest in the world.
