Hi its Rory and Carson and we are gonna talk about are devils porridge trip that we done today (8/3/23).

When we arrived we got in groups and our group watched a video first about what its like in and out of world war 2. We liked these videos and somehow found them funny.

Then we went down stairs to go have a look at the fake trenches. There was stuff like holes that you would put your hand in and there would be something inside. There was also phones you could listen to and little screens that would have voice recordings of people. Then we went upstairs and got split into new groups D:  Carson’s group did what would be in a house in WW2 and what girls did in WW2. Rorys groups looked at the things a kid would bring on his evacuation and what people would wear. we also looked at these few bombs that went off in Annan.

Hello people from earth We are Jullien  and  Kohdie and we are going to tell you about the devils porridge.

• At first we got on the bus for 45 minutes. after that the first thing we done was eating a little break.first we began at the WW1 bit from the trenches and about the woman’s  in the factory for the inside of bombs.  And after that we where split into 3 groups. I was in group 2 (Jullien) and at the first bit someone from the war told us about the bombing close to her house and blackout during that time. After that that we learned about the houses in the inside during WW2. and we found out about rationing in the houses and what they eat or drink and how they cook and how they made things.After that we dressed up like children did in WW2 to evacuate.And i got to dress up full with a wool jacket with a gas mask.after that we watched a movie then we where done and dressed up for the second time and made our own id card.then we got to the little shop where you can buy like stuff they used in WW1 and 2 thats it bye.

Today we went to devils porridge museum.

as you can see in the title and it was very interesting. there where wee telephones we could hear from like diffirent people talking about how living in the war.then we tried on some outfits and we tried on gas masks and we got to see what was in ther suitcases that they bring with them when they get evacuated there was a toy,soap,clothes to put on after  and they coud only bring one teddy.then we watched films from the eastrigs primary and high school .we got to see what it was like in a trench and it was actually really high and we got to look through a we thing and we could see the enemys that would be on the other side.  the ladys had to make the stuff that would go inside the bombs and when they where stirring it  it made there face yellow and it burnt there face up.

Today we went to the Devil’s Porridge museum to learn more about World War 1 and 2.

First we had a snack to ensure that no one was hangry and so that everyone would listen carefully.

Secondly, one group watched short films made by a primary school. The films were about the war.

Meanwhile the other group were downstairs looking at the items from the munitions factory.

The chemicals turned some of the workers skin yellow and some even gave birth to babies with yellow skin.

The cordite had the look of brown noodles and was wound into the shells.

The workers could not go into the factory wearing anything metal or it could cause an explosion.

The King visited and even he had to take off his shoes and wear rubber shoes to go around the factory.

We were allowed to take a scratch and sniff card…it smelled of cordite. It smelt disgusting. I would not want to work in that smell all day.

Kye enjoyed trying on the gas masks and even a wool uniform.

Yasmin enjoyed listening to the stories that were around the museum about ordinary people affected by the war.

Today we went to the devils porridge museum in Eastriggs where we learnt about ww1 and 2!! downstairs was about ww1 and upstairs was about ww2.
first we had a snack. Then we looked around downstairs where there was holes with things in them we felt, ww1 weapons like bullets and the things people used to mix the insides of bombs in, and some old telephones!
Upstairs was the room we had lunch and snacks in, gas masks, ww2 kitchen, ww2 uniforms, and evacuee clothes.
Outside was a shelter that we managed to fit the class into and a train called Sir James we could go into 4 at a time.
By the exit was a gift shop we could buy things from. Everyone could bring up to £5! i got a jar of honey from the gift shop 🙂

HELLO! Today P6/7 went to the Devil’s Porridge (a World War 1 and 2 museum). We checked out WW1 on the bottom floor, where we saw equipment used in the trenches, the height of the trenches, an multiple interactive screens that sometimes had games or recorded audio from WW1. We also saw how the “Devil’s Porridge” was made (The Devil’s Porridge is a substance that was said to look like porridge, and it was used to kill people, therefore earning the nickname, Devil’s Porridge. .Every time that we had to move on to another activity, an authentic Air Raid Siren would sound. We then watched some films made by Eastbriggs Primary and Secondary schools. We then did 3 activities, where we looked at a WW2 kitchen, evacuee facts and clothes, and the bombing on Gretna, in which 28 people lost their lives. We were then allowed free time to explore the Second Floor after eating our lunch. Continuing on, we checked out an Anderson shelter, which could fit all of us. Then we were allowed to spend £5 in the gift shop, Caspian got a pencil and a planecil sharpener (plane pencil sharpener) and Noah got one too, along with a badge.

Today we went to devils porridge. Freddie and I were in the  same group. There was two groups one group went down stairs to the WW1 stuff. The other group went to see a movie about WW1 Freddie and I where looking at WW1 stuff. Yeah it was really fun. Then we went to the air raid shelter. After we went to the train. We got to go to the gift shop. The bus was really fun. Me Jackson and Ramani played the car game. Jackson won. I was second.

Hellooo! Rhona and Ramani here! C: Today we went to the devils porridge and it was MWA (chefs kiss) and we all just kinda walked around looking at stuff and it was all about world wars and facts and taught us a lot! So FIRST of allll, (this bit may be a wee bit boring but i cannae go out to play until this is done OK!)

We went to the devils porridge museum to learn about the world wars.

We got split into 3 groups so we could cover the museum and not trip over each others coats and everything but ANYWAYS.

I was in group 3 with Ramani and we got to try on clothes and do games on touch screen thingies.

We went outside and saw the air raid shelter and the train guy who was a train. That makes a lot of sence.

We also watched a short wee film on world war facts.

We went to the gift shop and there was a bunch of war stuff and souvenirs but i literally found a bit of honey and I bought that. Heh.

We ate lunch of which i got a bacon sandwich (I know, your jealous)

 

Also on the bus we listened to Whitney Huston (yass) and sang and irritated the bus driver.

Then we went back on the bus and came back to school and can i just say that the bus driver managed to steer a giant bus full of a bunch of annoying wee kids BACKWARDS from the end of the road of potholes and stuff and everything which takes SKILL.

The devils porridge was REALLY fun and i recommend going.

OKK!! DONE IM GOING OUT TO PLAY!

We tried on some stuff from the museum (Jackets,Clothes,Hats,Gas masks…) . There were gift cards and stamps you could keep the card you got, ( one card that was smelly and i liked it some people didn’t tho..)
Then we watched a film about WW2 and peoples lives,
Then we did learned about what the children did when they had to evacuate.
They had to go without their Ma And Pa (They felt sad tho.)
Some kids were lucky enough to get their Ma with them tho.
We also found a nuclear launch pad replica (It was pretty cool ngl)
We also got to smell WW2 soap (It smelt so good…)
The trenches were Daniels favourite bit.
I also poked my hand into this hole a lot and found a rat (It was fake tho lol.)

Hello, Payton and Ori are doing a blog together today. and do you know what it is…

We went to the Devil’s Porridge in Eastriggs today. We learned  all about the first and second world war. We saw evacuees outfits and possessions, gas masks, air raid wardens and home rationings.

In the downstairs, we learned about the big ammunitions factory and how it affected the workers health. We also saw what the nurses uniforms would look like and what their living conditions were. We saw and learned about the trenches as well. My favourite part was learning about the nurses. Payton’s favourite was trying the gas masks on and the train that was outside. We also saw an Anderson’s air raid shelter.
