Hi. Caspian here.
Today I did some math word problems. I also wrote a review on Charles Dickens’ book The Signalman. Here it is.
The story is about a signalman who is having strange apparitions about a red danger light. He tells someone about this. The next day the stranger came back to find the signalman had been run over by a train. The plot of this story was interesting. I like horror and mystery themed books, as they intrigue me. I like the way they scare you and make you feel suspicious about things.
I also did 10 facts about the Border Reivers.
- The Border Reivers were Anglo-Scots.
- They were raiders between the 13th and 17th centuries
- They raided Scotland and England.
- Their name means stealers.
- They came to their height during the 1500’s.
- There were many clans.
- It was described as an era of terror.
- Another name for them was pillagers.
- They lived on the border, hence their name.
- Some tribes would wield crossbows, while others, axes.
That’s all, so bye!
The Signalman sounds quite spooky! Who would you recommend it to Caspian? How many stars would you give it out of 5 and why? Interesting facts about the Border Reivers- well done.
An era of terror!! I wonder how everyone will sum up this Pandemic year in the future?
How did you like Charles Dickens? Have you read any of his other books?
I find myself torn as I love the stories but get bogged down in names and descriptions.
Hi Miss Dale, I really love A Christmas Carol. Mum took me to the ballet and the musical at the theatre when I was younger and I really enjoyed both. The Signalman is the only other book I have read but Mum thinks I might like A Tale of Two Cities. Charles Dickens was in the third episode of the 2009 series of Doctor Who!
Hi Miss Pattie, I would recommend The Signalman to anyone who likes ghost stories and railways. I would give it 3.5/5 stars as the story unfolded quickly, was an easy read and a good setting. I wished the story had been a bit longer as I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for your review Caspian. I quite like ghost stories so it might be up my street.
