Save Wildlife, Bin Your Rubbish

Hello! Caspian here!

Today we started officially doing the mile a day challenge as Mum only signed us up last night but unofficially we have been walking in the woods or by the river every day.  Today we went through the small forest across the road from the park. We saw a tree creeper – the first one I have ever seen. We didn’t have a camera with us so I have attached a picture from online so you can see what it looks like. I was cross to see so much litter. I found a 7up bottle which a shrew or mouse could have easily got trapped inside. I put it in the park bin.

Our cat Dodger isn’t in a good condition. He has been sick by my bed and in the kitchen and he has a runny nose.  Mum was up with him all last night. The vets collected him two days ago to give him some medicine. They said it could take at least a week for him to recover.

We got a new school laptop today that we can keep for all our future learning needs. (Thank you Miss Dale and it was great to see you.) Also schoolwork-wise I did two things on Percy Fawcett – a letter from Percy to his wife and a news article, some maths – 5 a day and times tables, and the French animal jumble.

My happy photo for today is Big Eye the minion wearing a fez hahahahahahah! He is Tanith’s teddy and she nearly exploded in laughter when I put the fez on LOL LOL XD LOL

Describing Day

Hello

Today I did some describing pictures about some of my Christmas presents. Here is one of the ones I did. Can you guess what it is?

I also started learning about fractions today. I went around the house to look for things I could halve and I made a list of things. I read chapter 2 of The Enchanted Wood today. It is a magical adventure and it felt like I was in a magical world with my mama.

Smile every day and be happy. See you next time, love from Tanith xxx

My Happy Friday Photo

Hello everybody,

This is my handsome pirate cat, Saxon Templar. He is a pirate because he only has one eye. He had a bad accident when he was a kitten so had to have his damaged eye removed. I love all my cats the same but Saxon has been by my side while I have been working today. Saxon loves to eat salt and vinegar crisps and mini cheese biscuits. he has a mad five minutes every day where he jumps and runs about. He makes me laugh because he is very funny and gives me cuddles when I don’t feel well or am sad.

Happy photo

Hello everyone.  I would like to share my happy photo for today. This is where I have been for a lot of today – checking the blog. It has made me mightily happy to see so many of Team Holywood children taking part and posting their news and work. There have been some super quality work posts, that the children should feel proud of (and the parents and grandparents who have supported the children!).

(The other part of this photo that has made me happy is that  I have moved one of my bird feeders closer to the window, so I can see them while I am working. Which is cool, but not as exciting as the blog posts!)

Hope you all have a happy weekend, from Mrs Armstrong.

Today’s work.

Hey everyone
Cleo here.
I did some art using one of the myths that I wrote about the other day as inspiration. I also tried to relate to typography since that was the art for big Thursday. The word is making up the dragon’s horn.

I did my 5 a day. My mum was going to give me medium level, but I told her that was too easy and it should be spicy. I got a bit muddled with my long multiplication, but after sitting down with my Mum and going over it a couple of times we worked out exactly where I was going wrong. It was a simple mistake, but it messed my whole sum up!
I did Sumdog, followed up by some Epic.
This is my picture for the photography challenge. I bet I will post a lot of mantis! A big question about my last mantis was why do the females have wings if they don’t fly. Mantis do threat displays using their wings – their wings sometimes have swirly shapes on that look like eyes. This makes them look bigger than they are and predators are confused by the eyes. I have a couple of species like that so I’ll try to show them soon.

This is Autumn. She is a Deroplatys Truncata (Deadleaf Mantis). She’s not easy to take pictures of. Her species look like dead leaves so they can hide in amongst dead leaves and catch prey. Natural prey to praying mantis are flying insects. Autumn isn’t an adult yet

I’ve also found a picture to show an adult female dead leaf mantis doing a threat display so you can see how they use their wings for that. You can see this species has black dots on their arms to look like eyes.

Now it’s time to finish the day by learning about meditation.
Bye for now!
Cleo
