We noticed that the hand that didn’t have the lard on it was colder. The hand with the lard wrapped around it was warm. Kohdie said it felt like he was wearing a glove like Iron Man. Bailey said when he squished it it felt squishy like play dough. James said the hand with lard on it felt heavy compared to the other hand. Larsson said he couldn’t feel any difference between his hands. Some us thought the lard smelt horrible and some of us didn’t think it smelt of anything. We enjoyed the experiment and we would like to do it again. Here are some photos of us.
That looks like it’s been a great experiment!
Well done everyone.
This looks like a great start to Big Thursday, I’m gutted I’m not there to join in with you all. So if I lose my gloves, would you recommend lard as a substitute? Its interesting to think about how so many animals like polar bears have a natural layer like this to keep warm (although blubber, not lard!)
I always wondered if it works when people swim the Channel they cover themselves in lard to keep warm, like having a layer of blubber. I think you have proved that it works most of the time! Well done guys, I’m glad you enjoyed the investigation. It is good to hear your descriptions.
