back to school!

Hello Caspian and Tanith,

How are you both? I hope you are both well.  What have you guys been up to? Have you been missing school and your friends? Here are some of the things in school we’ve been up to:

  • creating hand bunting (hand bunting is were you draw around your hand and decorate them then hang them up).
  • working in clans to make miniature  villages using natural materials.
  • going back in time to 100 BC (before Christ).
  • designing our own clan symbols and names (my clan name is The Red Kite).
  • we have been going up the woods.
  • created time capsules.
  • we have been making garlands.

We are missing you lots and can’t wait to see you again!

Dear Caspian and Tanith

At Holy wood we are doing quite a lot of things. Like clan things because we have a new topic which we have to do things like pretending to go back in time because we are studying the BC things. BC means before Jesus. Right now we are looking at the clan things that humans did ages ago. I am in a clan called Predators and our clan symbol is All black. Right now we are allies with the red kites, which is Ori’s  clan.  Also what are you doing right now? have you been on holiday yet? Because i am going to Dunceld to see our friends TODAY. Also we were going to Sidmouth folk festival but since Croronavirus we couldn’t go 🙁 They have the best ice creams and they also have my favourite flavor because my favourite one is cookies and cream. Palmerston’s have it but its not as good as the one at Sidmouth 🙁  How are you guys doing?

Dear Caspian and Tanith

At Holywood we have been doing lots of stuff like going to the woods. What have you been doing? How was your summer and what have you been doing at  home?

Oops!

Hi everyone,

I didn’t publish my post about seed pods yesterday by accident. Mummy saw it was still a draft.

Today I have been working on my maths and spellings. I am now working on numbers in thousands. I am also learning more than and less than signs.

When I practice my spellings I now try and write joined up. For all of my spellings I write them out a lot then put each of them into a sentence to check I know what they mean.

I am now making a language with different symbols for our Wolfox clan.

Love from Tanith xxx

Seed Pods

Hello again,

I have been studying meadow plants and how they grow every year. When the flowers turn to seed it is so the seeds can be sent elsewhere and the plant grows somewhere new.

Five plants that disperse their seeds are

1. Indian balsam

2. Dandelions

3. Sunflowers

4. Poppies

5. Thistles

Indian balsam is a plant that grows and dies in the same year.

It grows between 1 and 2 metres high.

It has pink flowers.

It grows on river banks.

It comes from the Himalayas.

Little seed pods grow where the flower once was and these hold all the seeds. When the pod is disturbed, it pops and all the seeds fly out and settle somewhere to grow a new plant next year. The wind can sometimes blow the pods apart but you can also gently squeeze them and they pop! I saved some seeds and the broken pod to show you in my picture.

Crazy Eyeballs

I have been looking at eyes today (get it!!)

  1. The human eye can distinguish 2.7 million different colours.
  2. You blink 12 times per minute and 10,000 times a day.
  3. Eyes can process 36,000 pieces of information per hour.
  4. The pupil expands 45% when you look at someone you love.
  5. At birth your eyes are 70% of their adult size.
  6. Eyes ‘see’ upside down but the brain corrects it for us.
  7. Eye transplants are not possible (yet) because we can’t get the nerves quite right.
  8. After the brain, the eyes are our most complex organ.
  9. Eyes can heal scratches (to the eye) in 48 hours.
  10. The average blink takes one tenth of a second.

WOW!!! Eyes are amazing, and that’s without Superman’s lazer eyes!

We are currently working on our Mesolithic clan language and standard. We are the WOLFOX clan.

Reversible Change

Hi all, Caspian is back!

I forgot to do my blog yesterday sorry. I had a lesson about the melting point of solids to liquid, and reversible change.

Melting is when a solid is exposed to heat for a period of time and melts to form a liquid. The temperature required to cause the melt depends upon the solid material.

Butter melts at 38 degrees centigrade.

Ice melts at 0 degrees centigrade.

Wax melts at 75 degrees centigrade.

When an object melts, it is the same amount of matter and can return to its original state.

Mum melted some butter when she baked some oat royales so I watched to see the whole melting down process.

Today, I wrote a piece about all the nature I saw on our nature walk and also sketched some of the things. I think moss is really interesting as it is full of moisture and always grows facing north.

That’s all folks!

Hello Tanith and Caspian

Thank you for getting on the blog and sharing your learning.

We miss you and it is great to read all about your learning at home.

We have written you letters and they will be with you early next week once we have checked them over and written them out neatly!

Stay safe and well,

Miss Dale
