Day in the Woods

Hi all,

Caspian and Tanith are back.

Yesterday we spent a lot of time researching British woodland in preparation for our woodland expedition today. We were really interested in learning about different tree barks and woodland bees. We found out thag there is a larger oak tree species called turkey oak. It is orange and has much bigger leaves. We actually saw one today!! We also wrote about the woods and how they make us feel.

At the forest, I see nature reclaiming it’s life essence. (Caspian)

Today we visited the woods. Wow!! We identified wild flowers, (yarrow, dog rose, sorrel, plantain, thistle, clover, foxglove, speedwell) different tree species, (oak, beech, acer, turkey oak, birch, ash) grasshoppers (Tanith actually held one), butterflies, frog spit (insect homes) and even a common lizard which was the first any of have ever seen. It was resting in some tree bark along with a lot of black beetles.

As no one was about, we were able to walk as far as Holywood railway station. Mum used to be an engine driver on an old railway so she taught us lots about how the railway line works in Holywood. Also down there is the bee association and we saw all the bee hives and a lot of bees collecting pollen. In the Woods, we discovered the burrow of a woodland bee.

It was a brilliant walk. We took it really slowly (Mum has to wear her leg brace) but it meant we could really enjoy our surroundings. We are really lucky to live in Holywood with all this nature.

We hope you like our photographs.

Bye (Tanith says I should put x’s but I’ve told her no!)

Our garden flooded!

Tonight we had really bad rain so we brought the horses in. I got soaked. When I went to my room I wanted to see the rain and then I realised that our garden had flooded so I shouted my mum. They phoned a few people to get some advise and help. Then I realised that the water from the road was coming into our garden. Also the back of our garden was flooding a bit as well. About an our later all the water was gone but there was little puddles left. That’s wraps up today’s blog. Take care. By Orla.

Wednesday 17th June

Today I started off doing some exercises on YouTube.  I was sweating. Then we did some maths and reading then mum and I made a den in the garden. We used the parasol, my duvet and blanket. It was nice sitting inside it before the rain came down and the thunder was really loud. It scared me abit.

I also saved a honey bees life. I gave it some sugary water hen it flew away.

We also have a mouse that lives in our garden. He comes out to get the seed and bread from the bird table. He is so cute and you can get close to him.

Tomorrow we are going to Ae forest to make another den and see what we can find.

Bye

I was doing bingo

Tonight me and my family and my dads girlfriend’s family played bingo on zoom. We were playing but we didn’t get the first line or the second line either so we needed to get the full box. Me and my dad were down to our last number when my dads number got called. He was so happy. He won one hundred pounds. After bingo I went to go watch a program. My dad phoned his mum and dad. Hope you enjoyed my blog bye. By Orla.
