All About All The Different Rocks And Weathering!

Hi its Cleo. I will be talking about rocks with my friend Daisy! The three types of rock sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous. We  were also learning about Earths core. The 4 things that are in the core is the inner core, outer core, the mantle and the crust which we live on. The sedimentary rocks get blown away by the wind and get took away by ocean waves. Igneous is made by dried up magma and dried up lava. Metamorphic can create one rock to another through pressure. Sedimentary turns to limestone and limestone creates glass. Igneous makes granite for houses. Metaphoric makes marble which is used for sculpting. Weathering is quite amazing because it can do many things to rocks. In the desert rocks heat up in sun and expand but during the night the rocks shrink down, although when it rains the rock starts to crack or even split. Water and Nature can also split/crack rock only differentially, Water can slide through the cracks of a rock and when it gets really cold it freezes and expand therefor splitting the rock. Although when nature splits a rock it is usually caused because of the roots that spread out and crack the rock!

earths layers

the earth has four layers the inner core, outer core, mantle and the crust. the crust is the layer we live on. the the thinnest bits of the crust are about five km thick.

the mantle is the 2nd layer it is the thickest layer of earth. the mantle has magma in it witch is also no in as lava. lava is the stuff that comes out of volcanoes. you can find diamond in the mantle. diamond gets transported in volcanoes.

outer core

the outer core is made of liquid iron and nickel. its the third layer.

space

hi! its Bruce back with another update from Holywood primary school.

p 5-7 have been learning about space there is 8 planets in our solar system mercury. Venus. earth. Mars .Jupiter then Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto was the 9th planet from the sun because it was so small it was classified as a dwarf planet  mercury is the closest planet to the sun there is 4 rocky planets and four gas giants the gas giants are     made out of different gases did you know more than half of the earth is covered in water. by Bruce p5

rocks!!

Today at school we were studying rocks there were3 stations first was dripping water on different rocks to se if it went through them or not  only one rock I tested actually did anything when I tried the chalk the water actually went through it! I know I didn’t  think it would either. Next we did rock identification I didn’t get much time at this station so cant tell you much about that, but I can tell a lot about my favourite station was the scratch test this is when you test if your rock is a soft rock or not.

Learning about soil

poster about soil

Soil is made of dead plants, rock and water .Soil is so import  to earth  if we didn’t have soil we be dead . dead animals make good soil .Organic matter is form by dead animals I thinks  .Wen organic matter is broken down is called humus. Compost  is crushed organic matter.

all about the solar system

The solar system has 8 planets there are 4 rock planets and 4 gas planets. first there is Mercury then Venus then Earth then Mars then Jupiter then Saturn then Uranus then Neptune. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are the rock planets and Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are the gas planets. Earth is the only planet people, animal and plants can live on. The rock planets don,t have any rings and  the gas planets do have rings. Saturn is the biggest planet and mercury is the smallest planet.

The planets in our solar system

There are 8 entire planets there was nine planets. Because a planet called Pluto.  Pluto  was to small to be a planet  so now it is not a planet . I was saying about the planets wasn’t I  so there is 8 planets first there is mercury then Venus , earth mars , Jupiter,Saturn, Uranus then Neptune. fun fact if they heat up mars then people plants and animals could live on it. Fun fact animals people and plants can only live on earth. Fun fact Neptune is the coldest planet in the solar system because it is the furthest planet from the sun.   I hoped you enjoyed this
