Katie’s and Jennifer’s Science Write up (with a little help from Ethan)

What makes the water the cleanest, stones, fabric or stones and fabric?

We think that the fabric and stones will make the water the cleanest.

You will need: 2 see through cups, 2 pieces of fabric, 15 stones (mix of small, medium and large), table spoon, small cup of mud, small cup of sand, table salt and a map pin.

1. Pierce the cup 17 times with the map pin then put the stones in to one of the clear cups.
2. Put two table spoons of mud salt and sand in to the cup with the stones.
3. Next put the cup with the stones and mixture in to the other clear cup.
4. Fill the cup to just past the mixture.
5. Wait until all the water has passed through to the second cup and take a picture of the cups on a white background.
6. Wash up your cups a start the procedure all over again with fabric and then fabric and stones.

 

The fabric and the stones made the water the cleanest and then it was the fabric then the stones.

In p4-7 we have been making  experiments.Me and Olivia  make a filter for our experiment. We first had to make a plan and list all the equipment we would need. Some of the things we needed: 3 cups, fabric, stones and muddy water. We had to record what we saw and what happened. So we can show what we were doing.

On Thursday the 25th of April P5-7 started a science experiment. Miss Dale put us in pairs. I went with Leah. On the white board Miss Dale put up 4 separation experiments for us to choose from. There was: Sieve, filter, dissolve and magnet. Leah and I picked dissolving because we have learned alot about dissolving and it was our favourite.

This is what we dissolved: salt, mud, sand sugar and glue.

First, we got a few cups, spoons and materials. Then we got 250ml of cold water to put with the the materials. We then put them together and stirred them together to see if the material will dissolve in the water. Most of them dissolved like the: glue, sugar and salt but the mud sank to the bottom and the sand hung about in the water. We had to record it on a table, chart or graph; we designed a yes or no table.

What is dissolving?

Dissolving is when something solid breaks down in a liquid.

We have 4 new pupils here at Holywood. They are 3 boys and 1 girl, Josh, Hayden, Reuben and Abigail. Josh and Hayden are in our infant class and are very cool. However, Reuben and Abigail are in the seniors class with us and they are just as cool as Josh and Hayden. Hayden came here first then Reuben and Abigail then Josh.
