Hecklegirth Hairdressers

I wonder if anyone is in need of a new hairstyle in preparation for the festive season? We have a great team of hairdressers who are very busy in Nursery if you would like to stay to play and experience a new style created by them. As you can see, they have been on the phone booking in appointments and trying out a range of equipment as part of their role play. I wonder if we have any hairdressers of the future here?

Derek the Paramedic

As we begin to learn about our community and the jobs we can grow up to do there, the morning children had an exciting visit from ‘Derek the Paramedic’, also known as Harper’s Papa. The children enjoyed finding out about the equipment he uses in his job and Derek listened very patiently to stories of medical situations the children had experienced as we tried to work out when we need an ambulance. They were also excited to see all the equipment inside the ambulance which he kindly brought to Nursery and, of course, the blue light and siren were great highlights of the visit.
Thank you so much to Harper’s Papa for taking the time to talk to the children about his job and for showing them inside an ambulance which he hopes should make it less worrying for a child if they ever need to use one for a trip to the hospital.

Wonderful Trip

Paulina’s Mum left a comment about our visit to the police station:

“Thank you I could be a part of this wonderful trip to the police. It was very lovely time with children. Monika (Paulina’s mum)”

Thank you very much for coming with us. We couldn’t manage trips out to our community without all our parent helpers.

Afternoon Visit to the Police Station

The Rainbow Room afternoon children showed great enthusiasm on their recent visit to the police station and enjoyed finding out all about a police officer’s job. Just like the morning children, they behaved beautifully and made us very proud of them all. Thank you again to those parents who helped to make this visit possible and to the staff at the police station who gave up their valuable time.

Police Visit

Thom’s family has been looking at our photos at the police station:

“We had a fabulous time at the police station, so pleased i could come along too. Thom liked the handcuffs best, he was amazed the Policeman let us look at them! All the Staff were brilliant with the children. Thom has been looking out for the cctv cameras in town and waving at the police!”

Thanks for helping us that day – it’s always lovely to have parents with us. There seemed to be a few children who enjoyed trying out the handcuffs. I wonder if the police officers have seen you waving Thom? I’m sure it will make their day if they do.

Police Station Visit

After a postponed visit last term, the Rainbow Room managed to get their visit to the police station last week as part of learning about our community. Everyone enjoyed watching life on the High Street through the CCTV cameras, had a good look in the cells, where some tried out the sleeping arrangements, and round the various areas of the police station. The police vans and cars provided great excitement especially once we were able to try out the sirens and blue flashing lights. As you can see, some of the children even had a little turn with the handcuffs.
Thank you so much to all the staff for showing such patience with the children and giving up their precious time. Thanks also to those parents who accompanied us on our outing. We all had a great visit. Here are the morning children on their visit. We will post photos of the afternoon children soon.

Police Station Visit

The Sunshine Room children enjoyed a visit to the police station towards the end of term as part of learning about our community and the different jobs we can do there. They all enjoyed seeing the different areas of the police station and, of course, the vans with their sirens and flashing blue lights were popular with most. Thank you to the staff at the police station for their patience and time to show us around as well as to those parents who were kind enough to accompany us on our visit. Hopefully, we should be able to rearrange our postponed visit by the Rainbow Room next term.

What Will You Do When You Are Grown-Up?

Before we started our World of Work week we talked to the children about the types of jobs they might like to do when they are grown-up. We have already shared some of the ideas from the Sunshine Room so here is a selection from the Rainbow Room.

Joshua M: I want to be a footballer. You need skills with the silver football.
Max A.: a fireman – you need to be good at putting the hose out.
Sian: a hairdresser. You have to be good at cutting.
Kacey: I want to run a shop. I need to be good at counting money.
Max L.: a policeman – you need to be good at running to chase people.
Ben W.: I want to be a farmer. You need to be good at milking, feeding the cows and driving the tractor.
James: I want to be a builder. You need to be good at making cement and be good at building.
Finlay: I want to be a train driver. You need to be good at blowing the whistle.
Thom: I want to be a footballer. I need to be good at kicking the ball.
Emma: I want to be a vet to take care of animals and make sure they stay in overnight if they are injured.
Orla: I want to be a police girl. You have to chase and arrest people if they’ve been bad.
Brogan: I want to fly an aeroplane.
Owen: I want to make sandwiches at Subway. I’ll have to count the money.
Keegan: I want to be a fireman putting out fires.
Peter: I want to be a policeman and take bad people away.
Olivia: I want to have a job in the kitchen making sandwiches.
Kobi: I want to be a policeman. I’d have to drive the cars.

I wonder what they will all be doing twenty years from now?

Doctors and Nurses

Owen’s family likes the photo of him on our “dress as your favourite job” day:

“Great photo of Owen, he really loved being Dr McGregor for the day, a great task for them to do, he was really excited about it.”

He does really look the part. I think we will all be alright as we get older because lots of the children want to be doctors and nurses when they are grown up so we should be well look after.

Guess The Job

World of Work Week was a great experience for the children, learning about lots of different jobs and encouraging them to think about what skills they need to do certain jobs. It was great fun on the last day of our special week when everyone could come dressed for a job they would like to do. As you see from our photos, we had a wide range of ideas from ship’s captain to optician, chef to farmer and lots who want to join the medical profession. I wonder what jobs they will all be doing in twenty years time?
