We would like to share some of the Hecklegirth monsters that the children recently designed and made at home with their families. Inspired by our discussions of the Loch Ness Monster they have produced some wonderful models and drawings of their own. I wonder what the Loch Ness Monster would think of them?

Celebrating Our Learning About Scotland
Several parents have been enjoying our posts about Burns and learning about Scotland.
Lewis’ Mum said, “What a lovely photo!! All looking very smart in their tartan! I was so sorry that I couldn’t manage to attend the Burns Day event, but was over the moon that Lewis’ Dad recorded it for me! All the children sang beautifully and I was very proud of Lewis!”
Savannah’s Mum was pleased with the photo of her on the day of our Burns celebration: “Lovely pic xx”
We also had a comment from Summer’s Mum who said, “Summer is loving her time at Nursery and the topic just now about Scotland!”
The children certainly seemed to have responded well to learning about Scotland and they did us proud on the day of our Burns celebration.
More Burns Fun
As promised, we wanted to share some photos from our afternoon Burns celebration. As you can see, the children looked great wearing tartan and most were keen to sample the shortbread, oatcakes, cheese and Irn Bru. Despite low numbers on Monday afternoon, most of the children showed themselves to be confident performers and families and friends looked suitably proud of their performance. Well done boys and girls!

Burns Celebration
Today we celebrated Burns Day with shortbread, oatcakes and cheese and, of course, Irn Bru. We appreciate everyone making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’ as it added to the occasion. Thank you also to all the family and friends who came to hear the children sing their Scottish songs. It’s so important for them to have an appreciative audience and you certainly helped to make it a memorable occasion for them. Here you can see some of the morning children enjoying their celebration. Afternoon photos will follow soon.

Scottish Celebration
We would like to remind everyone that we will be holding a small Burns celebration in Nursery tomorrow, 26th January. It would add to the occasion if the children could wear a little ‘touch o’ tartan’ if possible to help us to celebrate in style but the main thing is simply to come and enjoy the day.
The children have done well this week learning their Scottish songs and are looking forward to performing them tomorrow to their families at the end of the Nursery sessions (11.45 and 2.50).
Tartan Designs
As our learning about Scotland and Burns celebrations begin to come to an end, we want to share some of the tartans that the children have designed using different techniques. I wonder if any of them can spot their design?

Scottish Songs
We have another lovely comment to share after the children’s singing performance on Friday:
“We really enjoyed the Children’s singing and Thom was especially pleased to spot his big sister at the front. Well done to all the staff for teaching the pupils all the words, I bet they had the songs in their heads ALL weekend, I know I did!! ;-))”
They are very catchy tunes, it’s true. We thought the children did well to remember them because we had only been learning them for a week.
Kailey’s Family’s Got Talent
Our Scottish celebrations continued this week with a fantastic performance by Kailey’s family. Her Dad kindly brought in his bagpipes to entertain us and both Kailey and her brother showed super skills as they performed several Highland dances to his music. Everyone clapped along and thoroughly enjoyed their wonderful performance. Thank you so much to Kailey, her Dad and her brother Conlay. We really appreciate you performing for us and think that you are a very talented family.
Burns Day
On Friday we enjoyed a great celebration for Burns Day with shortbread, oatcakes and cheese and, of course, our toast with Irn Bru. Some of the children were disappointed that we didn’t have a birthday cake for Robert Burns’ birthday so we will have to keep that in mind for next year.
We appreciate everyone making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’ as it added to the occasion. Thank you also to all the family and friends who came to hear the children sing their Scottish songs. It’s so important for them to have an appreciative audience and you certainly helped to make it a great occasion for them. Thank you, as always, for everyone’s support and lovely comments.
